Dug out a skier under Squaw Creek today who fell face first and was unable to move....Someone yelled from the lift a guy was down and not moving, and whoever that was might of saved a life. Me and my brother rushed down and were able to dig him out in time. Scary stuff, please be safe everyone. Squaw was real close to having its first fatality of the season. This young man said he lost consciousness and re gained once we were able to get his head and neck far enough out of the snow. Once we got him out it still took 10+ minutes for ski patrol to arrive....We all agreed he might not of made it had we didnt get down there just in time to start digging him out. I really dont want to get into details, but I'm just blessed we were able to help and that this young man is OK. If it happened to be any of you guys who yelled out at us to get down there....we owe it to you for the heads up, otherwise we might never know.

    5am update on Hwy88

    Hola Amigo's,
The snow phone is updated as of 4:30a and from all the reports I have HWY88 / 89 & 50 are open with chain controls!
Stars are out and we have temps hovering just around 5 degrees!
5 & 6 slated to open 1st then we move over towards 11 & 1. Snow safety is our 1st priority. We received a copious amount of new in the past 24hrs...
Bring'm fat & rockered! See you at chair 6.
    Stay Thirsty,
    Coop

    Well done, Coop. Good report.
Tell us the update time, how much fresh, and the temperature. Tell us that the Spur is Open. Give a temp and weather forecast. Then go into the marketing spiel. (Tim always started with the marketing, and would forget to tell us the stats.) And yes, there is more detail available online, but I can't connect from my car, yet.
Again, thanks for keeping us informed.

Yesterday looked a lot like this, crazy deep storm skiing

Any of you Gardnerville folks care to share how much snow landed down there?

Here at the base of Kingsbury grade we had probably 6" fall yesterday (I don't smoke the same crack as Kirkwood, so that's a conservative estimate). We were thinking about trying to ski from the house to Jobs (across the street), but it may still be too thin. It is cold (14F), though, so this stuff won't be going anywhere and we could get more this week.

We're all heading up toward Kirkwood later today after a bit of work so leave some for us!

Didn't tag a single thing this morning up on Tamarack with AKBruin and non-mag Doug. Snow was perfect.

And it was 1 degree at the trailhead. Brrr...

Rollin with first bloods? How do you like them in the fresh? Mine seem to track like crap in any kind of choppy fresh.

nothing but rain. don't even think about it. but if you do.....

oh, and kirkwood was FKNA good today. had to be back at noon so i met ottime for a quick danberg lap and then hit chair 6, which they were nice enough to hold until i picked up my movie ticket. the season pass line got pretty long, but then they started giving you a ticket in exchange for your drivers license so you could get your pass later. That was pretty smooth i thought.
i forgot my camera, ut will have some ghetto cam footage later.

Yeah, that fucking sucked. They told everyone Wednesday. Thanks, jerks.

I'd be even grumpier if I hadn't skied a waist-deep lap at the 7-11 and had a great day today.

Unbelievable 1st day. little bit of a late start but hit it perfect when they opened up the Wagon Wheel Ridge line, beat the other people & got 10 all the way to the drain to myself. Full on HERO snow.

    Football @ the high school @ 10am

    Happy Turkey day All.

I clapped for you from the lift, that was one hilarious bail. I hope that ankle gets healthy quick, the rest of the day was absolutely epic! Also, that was quite a sick line until you ate it, man

Red Dog Ridge hike was the name of the game until they opened Funi. When they did, a bootpack below Tower 16 was quickly formed and determining it was safe by the bomb holes that did not slide (and I talked to a patroller who said they weren't opening broken arrow only because they had to put ropes on Silverado) and I managed 2 laps before a rope went up and passes began getting pulled.

After that it was one more on Red Dog ridge, but they closed the upper bootpack because some people skinned up to Olympic Lady, so I just lapped Gold Coast and Shirley for the rest of the day.

I'm looking forward to more lifts open tomorrow, then Alpine on friday. Awesome November.

did you happen to see my ski that ended up 200ft downhill? that thing must have rocketed off, ended up below those cliffs to the skiers left of my bail.

It shot up pretty high into the air and landed pointing straight down the hill... nothing short of a tank was going to stop that thing until it wanted to.

People who had the first laps on shirley must have had a good time, but I didn't get to it until it was skied out. Few of the cliffs had takeoffs to serve the landings well, and it opened so late that it was already in the shade, getting colder, and by the time I got there, it was tracked out. I took one run then went back to Gold Coast where it was actually less tracked out and still sunny and warm. The snow wasn't anywhere near bottomless like it was the last few days, and in fact it was not very deep at all on GC. Called it a day a little after 3.

    It was a good day.

    Damn Darkstar!
My knee would've handled that better than the Heave groomers. Should've taken Gimpy up on the offer to join you guys.
Ja - did I see your tracks in Raleys today?
