Good all season, but with a couple of restrictions:
*Mammoth Mountain Lift Vouchers are valid for the 2010/11 Winter Ski Season except during Christmas and New Years (December 18, 2010 – January 1, 2011) or Presidents’ Day Weekend (February 19-21 2011).

That's the sound of me slaying the Whole Foods produce department, instead of driving to Truckee.

    I'm an idiot.

Boarded high yellow at Alpine today, damn got caught in a big slab right off the top, 2.5' crown. It was super wind loaded and I knew it was going to go. Managed to escape right and get huge face shots down high yellow gully, mmmm! Didn't hit much. Then cruised over to squaw and saw that it was just the midstation of exhibition, funny! Cruised one run for fun. Game on!!

What's an early season lift ticket to squaw cost?

I'd love to make some turns off Red Dog tomorrow.

You're gonna be super stoked. Mammoth is getting pounded. Plus, they've had the top open since last week. If you can catch a break in the storm, the top is gonna be off do hook. Git sum!!!

In other news, I miss the sound of Cohee's voice. I guess I should give the new person some time to get broken in, but so far it's terrible. I actually just called China Peak to get my fix.

Red Dog could be real interesting tomorrow, particularly if the guns are going all night to make that interesting and entertaining natural/unnatural mix.
    or don't

She is trying way to hard to sound super amped. Or she is a speed freak. Or something.

Flatstar riding veeeery deep, planting 54 in poles right up to the grips. Almost too deep for the pitch in many spots, still very good

Almost got mauled by a H-U-G-E bear last night behind Smokey's Kitchen. My buddy Benn and I were walking to my Taco Mama headed to Boreal for some nighttime freshness and heard this grunt. There in a tree about 50 feet from us was this massive furry thing. It began shimmying down the tree with the quickness and we had the momentary eye contact/freeze/wtf should we do incident, before we began banging our poles together, yelling, and moving slow, but steadily across the road. The bear ended up in a bow-legged, aggressive stance just staring us down. We walked around Smokey's to get to my truck with the bear scoping us out the whole time. Thankfully there were 2 dumpsters between him and us, so we loaded up the truck without incident and left him standing there. - end of bear encounter blog post.

start of skiing blog post -
Boreal last night was pretty sweet. They were spinning Accelerator, so we got top-to-bottom laps. And since most of the sparse crowd that was there stuck to the main run, my buddy Benn and I scored some fresh tracks. Sadly no face shots, but plenty of silky champagne pow that was at least shin and up to thigh deep in places. I took out a closed boundary rope and bamboo pole (rope wrapped itself around me and yanked me to the ground, pole splintered into a million pieces...didn't see it 'cuz it was covered in snow and by the time I did see it the rope was clotheslining my ankles!). Other'n that, I hit a few bushes, rocks, and stumps, so they still need a bit more coverage, but for 8 pm at night it was pretty sweet. The Boreal Night Pass is well on its way to paying itself off.

Gonna be up at KW early Wed for opening, but looking at Skiwald's vid makes me want to hit it before the madness. How crowded you think it might get at KW? Might hit it Tues and camp in the lot.

Squaw as stoopid today. In good and bad ways.

    THE GOOD: chest deep pow.

THE BAD: Lemming mentality took over and most folks were waiting 1 hour for Red Dog to to turn. I was lapping Searchlight and the far righ had very deep pow and for the most part I skied right back onto the chair.

THE UGLY: Once Red Dog opened and the first and second wave came down, the hill was littered with stuck faceplanted riders on the bottom portion. I'd never seen anything quite like it. The snow was deep and slightly heavy but wow...I wish I had my Pontoons or Praxi Powders.

Great to catch up with old friends and see some familar faces.

So regretted not having my Praxis Pows in the navel-deep not so steep off of Red Dog. Still a fun day though.
