Is 89 EVER closed? We need lift ops, truthful snow and wind, and hiway 88 status. Do you have a line to Caltrans yet? Cut the hype and give us facts. Have a good season.
    Hola,
    Yep,
Gotcha on repeat, Have to get info to the destination traveler as well. Will shorten and drive lift, winds and 88 messaging. Have a line n 88. Facts yes, but the stoke has to be there. Not everything for everybody. But do want it to be legit.
    Thanks for the feedback,

Shogun - post 1054 in this thread - is a hero

I sent Shogun a PM, some of which follows here: At 12:30 pm on Tuesday, while one of the very few riding Squaw Creek, I went over you when you dug out the buried skier. You and your brother are heroes. You saved a life. I could hear the panic in your voices when you were digging. We all need to put our local mountains ski patrol's emergency number into our phones to save time for an emergency like this.

The same day, I also saw the over-rotated flip off the rock below Red Dog chair and was nearly blasted off Exhibition chair by the wind near the top that must have been over 40 mph about 11 am.

Anybody know what kind of conditions we can expect at Alpine on Friday? Theoretically it should be a pow day, but untracked Tahoe snow that sits around for a few days can be less than stellar. Should I break out the powder skis for Alpine's opening day?

Went to Sugar bowl. Skied some nice pow.

Snow was surprisingly consolidated and supportive. In general, it felt like mid-January.

Windy at the top, but it did not seem that bad. (unlike the Squaw reports...)

I'd expect less-than-stellar since tomorrow is suppsed to be above freezing, but I'm going to bring my pow skis anyway- the north facing slopes should still be deep, or at least not sierra cement. If anything bring your other skis and leave them in the car, and trade sticks if you think the pows are too much... see ya there!

It's true, the caltrans crew is great. but for some reason i keep getting behind an NDOT plow going 18 mph on Pioneer Trail. WTF is up with that? Are they loaning CATRANS equipment or taking over some responsibilities? and why so slow?

I was at Sugar Bowl yesterday on the (gold) Gotamas and was perfectly happy. Snow is soft and wintery and for the most part has been wind compacted, except in those aspects that didn't get hit by the wind.

Get out there and enjoy! Alpine will be awesome!

    Coop:

Yesterday was the best opening day EVER.

Bouncer Biggs at 6 did a perfect job keeping order where there's usual powder morning bum rush chaos. Even though I was on 50th chair, I was the first one down xxxxxxxx

Then here's what made the day: The staggered opening of terrain. Shit kept opening up throughout the morning.... xxxxx, xxxxx xxxxxx, xxxx, etc. This allowed me and my BFF Tyrone Shoelaces to ski nothing but top to bottom untracked until late in the day as we somehow got to each location as the rope dropped.

The feeling was skiing's equivalent of my Champagne Room all-nighter at the Spearmint Rhino in Vegas last summer, but that's another story not fit for a family-friendly skiing related internet forum such as this one.

Big Props to KW and Patrol for getting this much stuff open! It was like a mid-winter pow day without the crowds.

It means a lot to me and my brother that others understand the seriousness of the situation. The kid we dug out was 100% confident he was going to die if we didn't get there just in time.

We have a lot to be thankful for today, and I hope everyone is enjoying their thanksgiving. Much love,

    -Mac

I'm going to disagree with this. My mileage did vary: It was entirely Coop's early reporting on their new, revised plan to not go low and slow, but to throw their efforts into opening up 6, that made me change my schedule, move shit around, take a day off and get up there for opening bell.

I was ready to be disappointed, having experienced the history. Instead, Coop and crew did everything they hinted they were trying to get done, and gave us the BEST OPENING DAY EVARRR. It was soooo choice. I'm still pinching myself.

If you weren't there, I can see why you'd be jealous and douchey and sandyvag'd, but for this day, and for the days leading up to it, it would seem they did everything right. Line control was good; lifties were friendly and professional (I've never seen that before at KW), shit opened on time; much more terrain than anyone could have or would have a right to expect was opened as patrol continued to bomb and secure throughout the day... I mean, WTF do you want?

It could all go wrong tomorrow, but for fuck's sake, the guy delivered gold and you're acting like he just shit in your lap. He reported inside intel and that intel turned out to be true, and valuable. Sorry Cheney, but I'm not gonna go with your advice to fire such a guy just yet. This bears watching, for a bit.

Seriously, one of the best days I've ever had at the Wood -- off of just one lift. Unreal Pali laps. Thanks thanks thanks to all.

    Kirkwood sucked yesterday

Just ask Tyrone Shoelaces. He had a horrible time and especially hated his Splatulas.

I would like this thread to remain free of commercial posts and spam. Do you really want every resort coming in this thread and telling us about what a great time you're going to have if you come to their area every day? If Kirkwood wants to constantly assure us they will run lifts they can start a Kirkwood thread.

Maybe KW will change and stop being the butt of everyone's jokes. Word will get around. They don't need to tell us. In the meantime many of us live far from KW and don't give a shit about their daily predictions of stoke.

Once we got him out it still took 10+ minutes for ski patrol to arrive....We all agreed he might not of made it had we didnt get down there just in time to start digging him out. If it happened to be any of you guys who yelled out at us to get down there....we owe it to you for the heads up, otherwise we might never know.

I throw him skis because he's the ultimate promoter with his vids.
