Rumor is Headwall tomorrow, KT for Turkey Day.

I'll be at Squaw tomorrow, shaking off rust with my three kids and a buddy. Probably in my customary khaki Sessions shell and black pants. Might break out the highlighter-green helmet for ease of recognition.

    Interesting.
Can anyone else confirm this? I figured it would be the other way around.

That was the best early season EVER. Today was really freakin' good.
My first and only season of ski-bumming at Squaw. Picked a good one.

Macchio , just go your normal way until 49, and call the caltrans num from there. As I type this the snow has stopped at KW. Odds are that the spur will be open for us by 730am. Unless they decide to protest budget cuts etc just to crush my balls. The big boards are waxed ,so just look for the big guy on xxls ,blue and black Marmot and a Mirror Pond in my hand.

    That good today, huh?

I wasn't going to take out the Lotus 120s tomorrow -- not sure on coverage, and I like these skis a lot (don't want unnecessary early-season damage), but if it's deep enough out there...

I would say the snowfall rate from about 2:30 to 4:00 at Sierra was as hard as I've ever seen for 1 1/2 hours - fugginukin. I was literally thinking that if it snowed and blowed much harder it would be hard to not inhale an uncomfortable amount of snow with each breath. This storm was basically insta-january. Thank yew!

WWMD - Brand spankin' new Lhasas or my non-rockered Gotamas?
Planning on leaving for a commando-style raid on Sugar Bowl since I have to get back to the Bay Area in time to bake pies. I'm a little gun-shy because my 2nd day out last year I took out the Gots for the first time and compressed an edge when Mt. Rose turned out to be much bonier than Alpine had been the day before. Damn, it looks too deep for that too happen to me two years in a row.

    Kirkwood Openig Day 2010!

    Evening Amigo’s.
Here‘s where we are as of 7:45p….
Snow has hammered here all day! Wow, My hat s off to Bud Klein, Dick Reuter, Jeff Walters, & Dave Meyers for their visions here at Kirkwood. More Snow, Higher Elevation, the real deal.
It has been quite an event for us a storm for others, I am humbled at the amount of snow and the efforts it has taken to tackle and run with this. I understand the concerns posted here and I would have a few of my own as well. BUT as you all know, I live, breathe and love this rare place called Kirkwood. I am a (step) of the Reuters, I will be here a long time and I want you all to know I am out here because I respect your opinions.

So this being said, its POW hunt’n season and we start tomorrow. Yes, Patrol has a load to accomplish and we are a CLASS A resort there been a significant snow event here in the past four days! Yes, Significant, there is a very high Avalanche potential with this type of an event. Our Patrol, and yes you know most of them are working diligently to ready us for opening tomorrow! Next time you roll by a red jacket (with a cross) thank’m, they are not about closing; they are about safety….. We are all about the thrill of the slide, the stoke of the sport, the 8 sec drop into a pit of POW… Enjoy the day it is about the celebration of the season! POW HUNT’N.
I have put out my Intel, from cell to email. I do care; hit me with the criticisms and the positives. My ears and eyes are wide open!

Ok here’s the 411 on the roads,
Hats off to JC & Tele and the entire Cal Trans crews for keeping up with this snowfall. Just got off Hwy 88 from K-Wood to Meyers, Small slides on Carson Pass but very manageable driving. I did not drive up or over the Spur, so I will say this. If you want it drive for it, 50, 89, and 88. I will be manning the snow phone at 4am with my 1st update at 5am. I will give you the best road report that I can. This all being said, Cal Trans is working hard on 88 but we have had a significant amount of the goods drop in the last 24hrs…..
When you see the Cal Trans orange give’m a break, a wave and thank them for their efforts. They are not in the business of wanting the road closed. To JC, Tele, Kyle and crew thank you…..
You all have my FB Intel, Phone #’s and email. I will keep up the communication as best I can...
See you in the am tomorrow! POW HUNT’N Season is here!

    Stay’n Thirsty,
    Coop

i can't believe i haven't gotten one thank you for you bastards! u guys just take me for granted around here. well this will be the last time i let that happen!

see if i ever wash my car and then leave town, and stay gone for 10 days to have holidays with the in-laws in sunny, dry, and no-snow-in-sight-Orlando ever again. you can all kiss your 'best-early-season-ever' debates goodbye in the future!

The downside of a new house in Truckee...appliance deliveries for Tues go delayed until Wednesday due to the dumpage...you fuckers get some while I wait for the Lowes truck to arrive.

Thanks for the update coop and putting yourself out here for the better and the worse. You have no control over the roads but any intel you got @ 6 AM will be useful indeedy. At this point my only concern is how the season pass pickup line is going to be managed ... der, I shoulda gone up earlier to get that whole thing out of the way.

come on harp, small steps. Kirkwood mountain staff don't usually know within the half-hour when 6 or 10 go on pow days, let alone the day before!

Sweet indeed. 5am can't come soon enough. Hats off to the Caltrans crew for sitting in the plows instead of hiking the pow.
