I doubt it will be crowded at KW. That said, it will be less crowded on Tues. Looks like Coop has taken over the snow phone, and he has asked for no uphill traffic so they can bomb.
Can anyone comfirm the stated 72" snow total claim as of one pm today. Or do I divide by two?

No we are moving for 5 & 6... Need to pack the snow on the top of 6. Very light,
    Alternative is 5 & 11 not 7.
We are working it.. AV control, CATS and snowmaking combined.
We want it, you want it,

What a solid kick off to another epic season!! Red dog was serving up knee to waist deep all day (chest deep if you were stuck). Looks like manana could be the opening of upper mountain. To the people are whining about not having fat enough skis, did you wax with cold temp??? I didnt have any problems and most of the wallowing seemed easily avoided with a fresh coat and knowing the steep tree lines which dont flatten out

Dookey: that bear has been hanging out there, it got hit by a car a few days ago... hopefully they dont shoot it
I was djing at the KTKE 101.5 station thats right behind smokeys and when I was leaving I had my car door open and was checking a text message when I heard the clicking of finger nails on concrete... that bear was less than 3 feet from my face just looking in my car checking me out... I slammed the door and the bear hobbled away... I know its the same bear because its rear left leg is pretty mangled
Animals are scrambling for any food they can get at this point

was heading to kirkwood but ran into climberevan and his better 2/3 at waterhouse. started skinning up @ noon. 2/3 of the way up we caught the pain train. they started at 9. there were 11 of them and eventually the group became 18, with everyone alternating the trail breaking. the early group broke off to do a lap, saying they would be able to catch back up before we reached the top. of the 11, only 2 came back up. it was not steep enough for the split boarders to go, so they wallowed. it will be freshened back up tonight, which is important. there are numerous obstacles, which were easy to spot when there were no tracks.

I skied Gnarthstar today with jla415. I agree with the too deep for the pitch. Sometimes a second run was better than the first. The first was often like breaking trail. On the second run you could use the broken trail tracks to build some speed to make real turns in the fresh.

no more climbing at the wood

they posted on the home page that no more hiking will be allowed due to avalanche control.Im surprised they let it go this long. Hope they can get enough patrol to open up some of the top.

Unofficial Report From Today at Squaw
It's November and you still have no freakin' idea how to ski - let alone how to ski powder. Yet, you have no choice. The La Nina nuclear winter has arrived and she couldn't less of a crap if you're ready or not. Today Red Dog was nipples-deep and ridiculous. I had the single deepest face shot of my life today and I don't think I was alone. It's not supposed to be this good in November, but 'supposed to' is ended today.

    Hey everyone,

If you're having trouble posting try this:

    1) type your message
    2) click post
    3) when the error shows, click reload
    4) select resend
    5) depending on the error accept.
    - The error I see most says something about posting duplicate responses. If you get that you know that your message went through.

    Hope this helps.

    okbye

i've always found them to be very accurate. i got over 5' at my house. keep in mind it's under 5' feet now after settling compressing, but adding the totals i shoveled yields well over 5' (and there's a half a foot out there mocking me now). that's good to know about the uphill traffic ban since i was planning to go there tomorrow. red cliffs would probably be awesome though.

I feel your pain. Contemplated bringing the Spats but decided on Lhasas instead. Bad move.

Heads up for KW before they open. They are telling people not to head out on inbound terrain, as ski patorl is working to get the mountain open on Wed. See Kwoods site.

Be careful out there, as avy conditions rise. Before skiwald and I went out to Thunder Saddle, we talked with Coop, and some other people.....about conditions, and to be safe (and to make sure ski patrol wasnt out there bombing). We skinned up Whiskey, and it was miserable when we got to the surface lift. Heading over top towards the saddle, there was a massive fracture line heading down the opposite side towards chair 4. This area was very wind blow. We played it generally safe, watching each other the whole way down, and trying to stop off in somewhat safe areas. When we went out, SAC noted Moderate conditions at/above treeline on sloped of 35 degrees+. The area we rode was about 35 Degrees at top, but th majority of the run was about 30 Degrees.

The worst part: After a 2 hour skin, and some nasty wind/snow........it took us an hour to skin out of ther.

Thank you for taking over the snow phone. Yesterday and today were so bad I actually resorted to calling the China Peak snow phone to get my fix.
