K-wood opening day that year was sick...deep, and if I remember correctly, Oct26th?

    cross-posting this one:
I'm looking for a midweek only rental near the Squaw access road - I wouldn't be there on weekends or on holidays, so if your ski lease sits mostly empty during the week this might be a way to cut down costs without much impact.

The situation is as follows: I am working as a consultant right now for a couple of companies on the East Coast, so I can easily have a few hours every day to ski.

The problem is that my current ski house is in South Lake, so driving to Squaw or KW means I would spend a lot of those few hours of the ski break in the car.

So, I'm looking for a place with wireless internet that's mostly empty during the week to salvage some of those days where otherwise it wouldn't make sense for me to ski.

Just finished my last mountain bike ride of the season, starting to snow over the Desolation even a few flakes swirling around as I finished up.

    Goodbye Tahoe Dirt, Hello Pow...

Gotta love the 24 to 48 hr hour transition from MTB to SKI, got my last ride in on Wednesday (well last ride in the mountains at least) and will be real happy with a 4 or 5 day transition to skinning up something this week.
Like I told my last wife, I never drive faster than I can see, besides it's all in the reflexes.

    I stand corrected.

Moved here in '99, but didn't get the family hooked on skiing for a few years. '05/'06 was the first year we got a lease and put the kids on team. So yeah, I wasn't as attuned.

So what can we expect as far as lift openings at The International Resort, assuming THE PRE-THANKSGIVING STORM OF THE QUARTER-MILLENNIUM stays on track? Still just Exhibition?

Gopher, I know you're sandbagging with that entire "Squaw won't even open" shit on Unofficial.

I predict windfuckage. Don't expect the upper mountain to go until Sunday at least.

Oh, for sure. Wind is just one thing, though. I'm wondering if they're anywhere near crewed up enough to safely open more than one or two lifts.

I bet they'll open Shirley, Mountain Run, and maybe Emigrant by Monday. Sunday is an open question though, I think. Probably Red Dog.

I'm talking out of my ass though, and can't verify since my brother doesn't work maintenance as in years past.

I just heard from an unverified source that Red Dog is getting prepped for opening tomorrow. That would be cool, but I don't know how real the info is.

Sounds about right. Mammoth was the first to spin that year. Kirkwood spun up the next weekend I think. Mammoth was spinning Broadway and a couple of other lower lifts on Thursday. By some fucking miracle (aka. Mammoth ops kicks ass), they got the top open the next day. The pow turns in the Noids were off the charts...and NOBODY was there.

Have fun bush wacking on the Rad Dog groomer, with a thousand Squaw kooks! It will probly be on wind-hold all weekend anyway. I am sure we will get tons of snow, because I can't ski. Now, who wants to go fishing?

Post up your observations from Monday if you've the chance. I am planning on heading up there on Tuesday, dig out the buddy's house, and tour a bit. I'll keep an eye out for a 7' single planker ninja on Wed.

I'll be a squaw tomorrow for opening day. Grey patagucci pants and red patagucci jacket. Purple boots, with either a orange POC lid, or a purple beanie - and a shit faced grin. Say hi.
