Thanks for the offers guys! PD, a hard freeze, that's a good sign! I hope it keeps up the next few nights!

Thanks for the offer Pat. I'd love to but it's a bit out of the way.

Was just looking at some Kayaking options, man there's no doubt the melt is on.

The average historical discharge for the east fork of the Carson river is normally around 800 Cubic feet per second, it will probably hit 4000 CFS today!

schralph, i have the 192 splatulas with demo clamps and can deliver them to you at the trailhead or parking lot of your choosing early saturday. they should be perfect!

don't see how it won't freeze unless the cloud deck comes in low. we were on the road up to horsethief canyon and hit deep snow about where you drop down to the cattle crossing bridge thing. it was already mostly firm at 11:00 at 47 degrees. we headed to ebbetts where it got down to 42 degrees at some point, but that still didn't soften things up. despite the firm snow conditions, the air outside was such that the beers in the back of the truck were a tad warm when we got back @ 4:30.

Vintage photo found in Donner Pass archives. Long skier leaps from Donner's ski ranch. Disneyland mountains stand behind.

Nice shot of the Trinity Chutes BG! Heading up there this week, fired up! Attached a shot from yesterday in Deso. More at Unofficial Squaw. For June 18th, from Tioga to Tahoe and on up to Shasta, Cali skiers/riders are just killing it right now! Nice work people!

Here's some more beta if you need it. A couple people laid down this nice line yesterday I'm guessing. (trinity chutes in background behind ridge/upper middle)

More from avy gully (our tracks go from upper left out of trinities to the middle/right then lower right):

Oh, and suncups are starting to get pretty big at bunny flat but still smooth above 8500-9kish. We left bunny flat at 5:15 and I arrived atop trinities at 10:15. Shit was rock hard. Around 11:30 things started to soften. We dropped about 12:15-12:30 (S-SW aspect) and it was money. There's still a transitional quality to the snow up high. It was winter up there a week ago.
    As for the east side...

The rest of the trinities. My buddy dropped the middle of this pic. It gets softer quicker due to slight SE aspect. So much more filled in than last year which is hard to believe:

Went up Red Lake Peak this morning from Carson Pass to ski the North Bowls down to Hope Valley.

The snowpack is getting a little like summer with some runnels & sun cups.

    Second lap ski route.

That looks like a real good time. How long did the approach take? If you set up a car shuttle, were there some good places clear to park?

    Nice photos guys!

    Quick question about skins...

My skins have been kinda warm sitting around the house and I wanted to open them up but the glue seems to be coming off onto one side of the skin. I tossed them in the fridge and I am about to peel them apart again. Is there something I should do before I pull them apart? Is there something I should worry about while I am pulling them apart?

    Thanks in advance.

when you say "mostly snow free" do you mean that blue lakes road is open and the dispersed camping is on?

Vets, The hike from Carson Pass took about 1:45 minutes. Hiked the whole way in shoes, only crossing low angled snow in a few spots. I was solo, so no car shuttle but it is perfect for it right now. The county road going up to Crater Lake from Hope Valley is clear to the snow line not far below the lake, prolly make it all the way in a sedan. I skied right to the road with only a few short dismounts to cross some dirt patches. From there, I switched to shoes & walked down to the hwy. I stashed my skis & boots in the bushes & hitched back to my car. It took quiet awhile to catch a ride, it seems like I always get a ride quickly with my skis

Splitter, I don't know about the Blue Lakes road. When I checked a few weeks ago, the lower gate was closed & a guy I talked to said that it would not get plowed. He said it was clear to the next gate, but prolly wouldn't open till July. He may have been full of crap though.

Looking down to Hope Valley & Crater lake from the top

nah, cuz that would be charity valley. i just meant it's pulled back from the road so you can park anywhere.

Just spent the day doing the yo-yo on the fro-yo up on Donner Pass with Schralph and his homie stromie Trey. Hit up the School Rock side of the pass for some short shots on both side of the rock, as well as a mini-chute down by Star Walls. Each of the lines we skied had deceivingly looked longer and steeper from across the way atop Poop Chute when I scouted them out last Wednesday with Vets (http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/s...s-June-15-2011). We made 7 laps over there, finding a few jumps and making the most out of the sneaky low angle and broken chutes. Then we crossed the Pass and barreled up the ridge along the PCT to knock out Poop Chute to close the day. Pix will undoubtedly be forthcoming cuz we snapt a lot.
