^^^^ agreed. The cross was, well, interesting (read not really fun). Steep stuff in general was not fun. The lower stuff back to the TH was though. Dust on crust at its finest.

Anyone know how to get $25 tix to squaw tomorrow? I heard something about Porters, but I haven't been able to find anything on their site.

Sorry for the delay, but I just noticed that post 1 was pork chopped... Probably made it hard to use your phone. I fixed it now. Moo moo.

Headed to Kirkwood tomorrow for the banked slalom and a lap through the pond. Any mags at the wood for some laps tomorrow?

Hello all,
Where do you think I should go next sunday to avoid likely icy crust? I am assuming snow at squaw et al. probably will go through bunch of freeze-thaw cycles because of temps. Maybe rose will keep their snow quality decent?
I don't get to come up to tahoe too often and would like to make most out of my trip.
Thanks for the help..
^ right now the forecast for next weekend has been fluctuating....
up until this morning it was looking like it was gonna be awesome corn. now they're saying showers are possible.
in all likelihood those showers will be minimal and it will probably be corn/slush at squaw.
i'm looking at this week as the beginning of corn season and am hoping it's sunny in the high 50s next weekend.
i don't think there's any point hunting for winter snow, but others may have some advice in that direction....
Still waiting...
^^^ HEY ED! I jumped that rock we talked about... Snow levels being high it wasn't very impressive the first time and super unsteezie the second, but I got over it. Hopefully you can jump it next time too! Get better.
Today at Squaw was everything I dream about when I dream about skiing! Easily ranks in my top 10 days EVAR! Good skiing with everyone.
If you go to squaw let me know and I'll be happy to show you around.

Fun weekend at Alpine. Got to see splat yesterday, which is always entertaining. Turx & Cinders were there, but I only saw them in the morning, not actually on the snow. Unpossible made an appearance and we got a few good laps in. Theetruscan and Son of Sinecure were fun ski buddies. The Dad was around, and we got some great skiing with Stormday's youngest daughter. Son of Sinecure pointed out that not only does she rip, but she's totally got the steeze working - not bad for age 5. Plus she fits in between any trees.
Today was a fun, goofy day.
Saw a pretty cool sun dog, circular rainbow thing this morning (this must have a name). So-so picture of it from my phone.
Actually got some nice pow turns today just before lunch in Estelle. Bumped into fluffballs on the hike out (where is fluffballs these days? - he never posts any more). Son of Sinecure and theetruscan get a couple good turns near the top.
After lunch I got my spongebob on. The kids loved it. We went up to check out Keyhole and Marhanka's. Spongebob didn't ski it very well, but the photographer missed the worst part - here I am making a graceful recovery.

In any case, if you're ever really in this situation make sure you at least bargain in a couple of fluffers.

So who and 50 of their friends slayed Donner Summit since the storm? I have seriously never seen so many tracks down it.
That is the 22 degree halo caused by ice crystal refraction in the upper troposphere, or more simply, cirrus cloud refraction. The hexagonal crystals act like little 60 degree prisms and refract the light twice through the crystal giving a minimum refraction angle of 22 degrees, hence the name!
More here: some ice crystal optics
Didn't slay donner summit went for some self abuse at sugarloaf instead! Mmmmm mossy wet squeeze chimneys!
I know!!! its been soo bad this year, I blame sugarbowl for that stupid summit chair! Its become a total gaper scene, worse than munchkin. One of the last times i was up there a group from the bay was up on the summit, didnt know how to work their beacons and ask me for directions on how to ski back to there carOn the bright side, everyone skis the same mellow shoulder to the same exit in the train tunnel like a heard of sheep. If you know some of the more steep, technical lines down the main face and are willing to skin up to tressel peak theres usually goods remaining for a few days after the storm. However i would imagine that the mellow shoulder line was holding the best snow/least ice after this last cycle
sooo, how do i get to this donner summit place??
More dust on crust yesterday - skiing was marginal. But great weather though - a relaxing tour. Still sorting pics, but I call this one "Nap Time with a View":

I can second that one. Good finally getting to rip it up with you guys!! All I can say is after yesterday, I'm seriously questioning why I went home and I'm sitting here in SF today on a conference call rather then just tossing my chips in and staying forever! Started the day with some winter soft snow in shaded Silvy spots, and ended the day with full speed spring sugar bombing Rock Garden with a smile ear to ear. I think we hit the PERFECT transition between the storm snow and back to Spring.
I WANT MORE!
That plate is awesome Sinecure. It's almost enough to outweigh that you neglected to mention how poorly I skied on Saturday. There was a Gone2Alpine, Mrs G2A and KindaG2A Jr in that group too. Hope ya post that at UA too....but understand if you dont.
hah, i am guessing all those sluff piles on echo were from you ucl after naptime. didnt ski today but we skied good pow in the loaded and protected cp sunday.
Has it been corning up on south facing stuff? Thinking of hitting E-bay chute tomorrow will that be a good call or should I try going for N facing powder still???
