    The Weather Channel Photo

I just went to the Weather Channel website, clicked on their special Sierra Snow story, and noticed they had used a photo that I think Skier6 took during that last round of huge ass storm:

    http://www.weather.com/outlook/weath...how_2011-03-23

Anyway, thought whoever it was who took it might want to know it made it to the weather channel. The weird thing is they try to pass it off as a photo taken during this week's ongoing storm, and try to pass it off as taken on Northwoods Blvd. Looks to me like some weatherman on assignment ditched his job, rode all week, and then tried to pass some shit off like he had been doing his job...

In other news... Squaw posted season pass prices for next year, as far as I can tell no changes. They are also finally providing discounts on blackout days (half off).

Edit: Gold is significantly cheaper now (last year it was $999).

    Thanks for the heads up.

I think it's cheaper for the GOLD PASS this year.
They extended the sale date one month too, until June 15th.

Anybody know anything on a SAR op at P-casa last night? Hope the person was found safely.

Sounds like some resorts down there could stay open all summer,
I've heard that said about mammoth mtn in summer of "05.
We could start a betting syndicate guessing the date each highway pass opens.

No surprise, but it appears they dropped the 2 free half day private lessons. Too bad, that was a great perk for me to get the gold pass.

Eldorado SAR pulled a snowboarder alive out of a treewell at about midnight. He was located by the GPS on his phone, and then via a beacon search as he had either built a snowcave or was buried to deep in the treewell to find otherwise. No report on injuries. I also heard he lost his snowboard, but how does a snowboarder loose his snowboard in deep pow?

I couldn't make this search as I was Reno; glad I wasn't needed.

That was the first SAR I remember on Phouse where we actually fielded, which is a suprise to me given the crowds there.

Alpine closed Sherwood lift with about 200 ppl in line today and tried to evac them all to the front of the mountain with two snowmobiles. Needless to say I started walking with about 50 others as soon as they announced we were fucked. Had first tracks on Sherwood cliffs (amazing) but it was brutal riding hot wheels 3 times. Slowest, coldest lift rides I've had in a while.

KW today....they popped 6 at around 9am and that stayed open all day to outer palisades. Had 5 sick fast and fluffy runs. 10 popped just before 10am, so I got like 15th chair and had epic deepness down waterfall ridge. Got skied out after that and the wind really started howling so they shut 10. Proceeded to take our little guy on 1, 9, and 7 for a few stormy hours, and then back out to windbuffed in the palisades, some oops fun, and smoothness under Norms. Solid day. My face is a little windburned.

Hey I got a question for those of you riding today (specifically KW) - what was the word on the snow? Super light and fluffy or more creamy by days end? Thinking of making the run up there tomorrow until monday evening.

irul: It turned out to be a pretty good day at Alpine while Roundhouse was open. (Winds closed it at 1pm.) Patrol was letting people go pretty far out. Plus, Sherwood was open for a while.

It was good face shot snow. There was enough new snow and wind that there was some refilling going on too.

I was in SC, but I don't think 10 opened. Regardless of the type of snow, I imagine it is worth getting up there, if you are able. I, OTOH, can't make it till Monday and hope for some sort of issue to keep 4 closed, and hey, even 10 for another day. Wind, visibility, mechanical... does not matter.

It was would be allot nicer to ride that with young children if it was a high speed. Loading would be easier and the little kids would not get so cold by the top.
