for years i used to go to this site to find out exactly how much snow squaw was getting before they would report it:

    http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/rev/remotedata/sqwhic.php

it used to be such that you could add up the numbers in the "Hrly" column, multiply the result by 12, and it would always match the amount of fresh snow squaw was reporting at high camp exactly.

it stopped working a few years ago... the data in the "Hrly" column returned this year, but i don't think it matches the squaw report anymore. i've only tried it twice this year and it did not match.

    [/geek rant]
When Eric Brandt ("Good morning skiers and riders, Eric T here") used to do it, i think he would underreport. Since he left(about 2005), I think they tend to overreport, although really theyre just less consistent - now they have different numbers throughout the day, even though the morning report is supposed to be 24 hr new.

FYI, i believe squaw's snow station is by the bottom of belmont, a little below high camp. But when I worked there, I don't think they used that number very much. Eric would come in at 5:30-6:00 and get on the radio to get a feel for it from the groomers, and i think use that and the data to make up the numbers

Worried that you may be right. It started snowing fairly heavily in downtown Reno about 1:00 PM, and hadn't let up by the time I left work, around 5:45 PM. Still snowing (lightly) at my house in South Reno at 4750'; streets are slushy, lawns/roofs have 1-2" accumulated.

Mt. Rose highway and I80 are still closed -- latter is to be expected, but 431 rarely closes.

Yup, I had 9th chair and it was emmerreffing epic until they closed it. My last KT run was dead tree and it was as if no one had touched it due to massive amounts of snow blowing into it over the cat track. Red Dog/Far East was still in amazing shape til I left at 12:45.

Not really sure why everyone left after kt closed??? It was good and all, but its was only like 2ft deep. Red dog/sqauw creek trees were more like 3-4 of blower unconsolidated with way better vis and probably the most orgasimic tree skiing known to man. My best run was at 3 pm when the shut down the mountain.

Gotta love when all routes in shut down before the weekend. Im just keeping fingers crossed that they don't open the roads till sunday!! Probably better for you bay folks anyways its too deep up here for yall! J/k!! Anyone crazy enough to come up please be safe and if you see a white subie without a bumper feel free to spin out of control into me in your prius, i could really use a new ride.

Watched a Volvo XC going 50mph on hwy 101 hydroplane, bounce off the center barrier, have a wind gust launch it 10ft off the ground, barrel roll in the air, and slam back down on it's roof today. Missed me by about 5ft...

Watch it out there...even in the Bay.

Driving this morning was the sketchiest conditions I've ever experienced. I could have ice skated down Pioneer Trail with no problem.

Sierra was good for a few hours until Grandview shut around 11:30, but the wind had hammered everything into interesting shapes so it wasn't uniformly deep. West Bowl shut soon after and I didn't feel like waiting for Nob Hill.

Right now it is biblical down here at the lake. Snow has let up a touch but the wind is kicking up. The snow is absolute blower despite moderate temps.

Snotel claims 6" in one hour, 9" in two hours. Holy fucking shit.

Radar looks like it should be letting up soon...probably showers from midnight on through tomorrow.
