    AT Binding mount question

At the risk of an all-time Jong...

I am going to be mounting my new (an improved) NAXO's on my Lawnchairs

I typically like to mount my bindings about 1 cm forward from the usual mount point. With these being my first AT bindings (not much experience in the field), is there going to be any issues with "balance" when touring? (like when I lift up, etc.)

I know that if you mount a telemark too far forward, the tails sag and the tips go up in the air.

I'm figuring that this will not happen with teh NAXO's... BUT with the fact that there is no spring return in tour mode, I wondered if I am gonna get too much tail sag.

It probably won't make much of a difference anyway, but just wondered...

Shouldn't make any difference to your touring.

The Naxo tends to make make the tale drop - helps you out on the kick turns.

Cool! I'm so stoked to mount them up. I did a search on them and saw all the negative press on the old models, but then I read all that Lou had to say on the improved model (which is what I got). These are going to be sweet... as long as they don't malfunction. I had the choice between these and the Freerides, but it came down to price (I got a deal through a friend at a shop). He assures me that I will be happy with them, though. He is an AT skier on Dynafits.

Cheers! I'll let you guys know what I think of them after I get out on them a few times.

I mounted my freerides 1cm forward on my 190 Lawnchairs and everything has worked out great. Awesome in corn and pow, although it is still taking a bit getting used to being so high off the ski, and having a binding with no ramp in it.

    Mount COMPLETE....

I just mounted them (used the shop's bench where I bought them). I went ahead and mounted them to the toe line. Man, those bindings are beefy; alot beefier than I thought they would be! They are the Naxo NX01 VRS models; the supposed improved model designed for "North American" style skiing. They are actually alot heavier than I thought they would be. There is a little play in them, side to side when clamped down, but I was told it was to be expected and when skiing I wouldn't notice it. The only problem I can forsee is the heels of my boots are a little worn and it is tough to get the heel piece to pop on it's own. I almost have to reach down and nudge it with my palm, which is fine with me... My old Look turntables do the same thing with my boots (Lange L10's). When I get home tonight I am going to play with them on the livingroom floor and get a better feel for them. On Friday I am going to pick up some skins for the loungechairs and be good to go for a test run this week-end.

FYI, if mounting these things, watch your thumbs when poping the tour lock for the first time...

Lou's site mentions this as a known issue with some AT boot heels. I've not had a problem with either G-rides or some beat up Salomon alpines. Double check your settings - particularly boot length. Otherwise it sounds like you might need to get some repair work done to your boots. or "invest" in some AT boots.

My new warranty replacements of old models have just arrived in the shop. I wonder how many different ways I can break these ones?

After closer review, I think there is just enough bevel in my boot heels to not have anough force on the tab to fully pop the heel piece. I think I am going to gob some JB weld on it and shape it with a file, just to give it enough lip to catch the tab.

I read about it on Lou's site, just overlooked it yesterday. I went back and reread the FAQ's. That is a sweet site to look through for anyone considering these bindings!

Wondering if this is the right place to post this query....

Got some NX21's for Christmas and am looking to get back on skis in Argentina this summer maybe. Was planning on mounting them on 175 pocket rockets which have salomon bindings on them. I'm pretty sure the holes won't line up, so I'm wondering if I should mount them forward or back 1 cm of where they were.

As far as I know, they are mounted at +0. What is the concensus? Forward is better than back for AT?

    hey, max-
    what boot are you using?

in general, i'd say forward tends to be better than back for (light- to mid-weight) AT setups, but:

    (a) the mounting line on PRs is pretty far forward;
    (b) the PRs are way soft.

In this case, I'd probably drop back just a bit.

(I do have a set of PRs mounted w/ Dynafits, and I ski 4 or 5 different AT boot/binding/ski combos.)

Glad to hear you're already thinking about the next time on snow!!

Sillymon Xwave 10. Not sure the sole length, but the size is 27.5, if that helps.

    Thanks for the advice, dood.

PS I'm 5'11" 175 (w/o gear), and even with light boots and Dynafits the PRs in a 185 still get a little squirrely when mounted at the line.
