I bet an expensive ticket taught him plenty. I have no problem with doing the things you say, and I think that I practice very good road ettiquette. I also think that catering to people who drive like dickwads can only encourage them, let them get a taste of the law and then maybe they'll understand.

I dunno about you, but when people go apeshit behind me, I don't take it personally. On a one laner, I would definitely pull up and out on you if I thought I had a chance to pass. If there's oncoming traffic, I'd "weave" back into the lane and back off for another shot. I'm harmless.

Regardless, it seems you fail to grasp a really basic concept:

Slowing down when someone tailgates you is the smart & safe thing to do. If they keep doing it, slow down some more. Eventually he'll pass you and it'll be safer, because it's easier to accelerate at low speeds than it is at higher speeds.

Slowing down when someone is tailgating you and then speeding up when s/he attempts a pass is dangerous as fuck.

Some people really change when they get behind the wheel. It scares me when people take driving actions personally. Imagine if airline pilots tailgated each other, and had acts of road rage. Soceity wounldn't accept it. But its okay for people in automoblies to do the same with the risk of injury or death. Driving is pretty serious activity, but some people do stupid things behind the wheel such as eating big mac's, reading, and putting on make up. I guess that driving becomes second nature and we don't give much thought to the consequences involved. But hey, were only human. I am guilty as the next person, but I try to make an effort.

Well, enough of my rant for the day. It better snow quick so I can stay sane.

You're right, it wasn't the smartest thing to do, speeding up at the passing zone, and this was only a one-time thing. Like Rossibandit said, we're all guilty at one time or another. If it had ended in an accident or something, obviously I wouldn't be as proud of myself. The point is though, it didn't, and the guy got what he deserved. Please don't think that I fuck with asshole drivers on a regular basis. My usual action is to lightly step on the brake so the taillights go on, and accelerate at the same time.

For the last couple days, it has been raining pretty much non stop. When these people get any water on the roads at all, they freak out. Yesterday there was about 2 inches of water on the road, and everyone was doing about 4 mph, even in big trucks and SUV's.

The world is full of stupid people, and I don't think that's ever going to change.

I think that if anything, it's better to have people going slow in bad weather. It's really bad seeing all the people up here from the Bay driving over the speed limit in the snow. Much like the Joeys in their Explorers tipped over up and down the VT highways.

I don't take getting passed personally. I drive an old piece of shit car that doesn't like to run let alone run fast. So I normally do the speed limit or just a few over. However my peeve is when people honk at you for not jumping the light.

I was sitting at the light and this old dude in a rapist van starts going apeshit because I took .05 seconds longer then I should of. He floors it peels around the corner pulls up beside me and starts going fucking off the wall. Since the dude needed to calm the fuck down I promptly flipped him the bird and told him to go fuck himself. I thought the dude was going to hop out and start a rumble in the middle of a crazy intersection. It was kinda scary.

Lesson learned: Don't fuck with people that have road rage. Unless you have a bat in your car.

So my buddy is driving through the city in the summer. Guy starts tailgating and honking at him to speed up...pulls up in the left turn lane and lowers passenger window to start giving my friend a piece of his mind.

My buddy pulls out a Super Soaker and sprays the guy square in the face, then the light turns green and he goes straight.

I'm not saying it's bad that people drive slow on mountain roads, but I guess I was implying that people who don't know how to drive on snow don't know how to drive in general. Some people think they can handle anything, and that's how accidents happen. Other people don't think they can handle anything, and that's also how accidents happen.

When it comes to people doing stupid stuff, I can't say much. I can't say I've never done anything stupid in a car. I guess what I'm saying is that most of us are probably better drivers than the rest of the world, and even when it seems best to get frustrated because people are doing something they shouldn't, we need to stick to driving defensively.

I'd say NH has a lot of "bad" weather, and I consider myself a decent driver. I drive very fast and very aggressively, but thats because I like being in control of the situation, rather than trusting others to go around me safely or whatnot. However, I can't ever imagine getting mad at anything but bumper-to-bumper traffic. Everything else is just traffic flow. hell, tailgating just reduces the run-up you need to pass someone. As long as I'm moving and have radio reception, I'm happy.

This reminds me of a hilarious incident a new Audit professor at our college told us about last year. Apparently last fall the Prof. was driving to the library to pick up his wife when this guy in a pickup starts tailgating him and honking the horn. Thinking that there is something perhaps wrong with his car he pulls over to the side of the street. The pickup guy pulls over behind him and runs up to the car. The Prof. rolls down his window just a little to see whats wrong and the pickup guy is screaming at him about his shitty driving and pointing his finger into the car. The Prof. takes this opportunity to quickly roll up his window catching the guys fingers in it in the process. The Prof. claims he calmly put the car into drive and let the car idle down the entire block with the pickup dude being forced to walk beside. At the end of the block the Prof. stops the car, rolls down his window and says, "I'm from New Jersey buddy and the next time you fuck with me like this I'm gonna punch the gas and I'm not stopping until your bloodied body is laying in this street and your fingers are still in my window." This all took place about 2 blocks from the cop shop. I wasn't sure if his story was really true until he brought his homemade moonshine to class one day that he had been raving about the entire semester.

I'm assuming they all drive in VT more than I do, but after getting nailed once in one of those crappy tiny town speed traps, I don't really speed on the local roads anymore. Meanwhile, every car with VT plates goes flying by me like it's impossible for them to get stopped.
Are locals mostly immune to the traps set for us southerners?

The same is true in Wisconsin where highway patrol prey on the Chicago suckers headed to their lake houses all while letting Wisconsin-plated cars drive at their leisure.

That's fucking stupid. What it mostly does is make you more likely to rearend someone when they stop short for an animal, kid, etc. running across the road. Most people don't like getting rearended by guys....well, except iceman. Maybe you should give him a call.
