    Looking: Defence/Government/Security job/career

I know this is a long shot, but the depth of knowledge on this board never ceases to amaze me.

I will be graduating with a doctorate in Military and Strategic Studies sometime this winter. (Date is dependent on finishing the dissertation, organizing committee, etc.) I know that many of the jobs in my arena have a long hiring process. As such, no hurt in getting as many feelers out as possible.

I have been looking at job within NATO, OSCE, US State Dept (American citizen) and a few other government agencies. In addition I have applied to numerous positions with the Afghan PRTs, both through the State Dept and BAE. I am also in the midst of the FSOT with the State Dept. (Took and passed it last year, was not selected for interviews, so round two)

In addition I have registered a CV, and am monitoring job vacancies at a number of defense aerospace companies such as SAAB, EADS, Boeing and BAE.

Ideally I'd like to get back to Europe, hence the heavy European bias. In addition most of my research is on European security topics, specifically Sweden and the Nordic countries.

I realize this is rather vague, please feel free help me narrow/expand/etc. I have a CV available if you feel you can help out.

Your graduating with a doctorate in Military and Strategic Studies and you don't know how to spell defense! If you get a job I hope you only have to deal with civilians.

mwthomsen: "Defence" is an acceptable spelling.

Gripen: Buy/Find/Borrow a few recent paper copies of The Economist, Jane's, and AW&ST to look through the jobs in the ads? I also did not see the UN, Worldbank, WHO in your job search.

A British variant of "defense" is how it is listed online. So I guess in Europe it is acceptable. Learn something new everyday. However, I would stay consistent in however you spell it throughout a resume.

    Gripen,

Well you got all your bases covered then because you spelled it both ways. Best of luck in your search.

forget lanl, it's an empty shell of its former self as your father would remember it (or even as people would remember it in the 90's). i can tell you all about the current situation if you want. it's not pretty.

Thanks for the PM. I get that feeling from my old LA contacts as well.

I went to the interview round in Foggy Bottom with the FSO hiring process and scored pretty well. I'm pretty sure I'd pass if I had any interest in doing it again. Let me know if you want any (legal) advice on the interviews, though it's mostly the same as what you'd learn if you googleized and listserved it.
