Yeah its sad to see another mag die, but Im glad it was freeze instead of adecent publication. And yeah they did do a lot for the sport, but they havent done shit lately.
I might be misinterpreting what you are saying here, but the guys at Freeze were always super cool. Mark Epstein(The Jerk), Micah Abrams, and Flip(No longer there) are great people, who have done a lot to help skiing. They always work getting new skiers in the spotlight(contenders) and always try to have their facts straight on those skiers. If you don't really know those guys, you shouldn't be badmouthing them.
I see you shots all over the place, were you sending Freeze your "A" shots or "B's". Powder, SKier, Frequency, Ski Canada, maybe Freeze didn't publish your shots since the best were already being used in those other publications.

If you didn't like the mag, fine, but bad mouthing good people isn't needed.

Like the time they spelled Pete Sowar's last name Sauer? I like those guys a lot, and I'm definitely going to miss Freeze more than most (I had two features in issue 1, afterall). But man, that's more letters wrong than right.

If someone thinks an email-circulated petition will make a difference in this case, they need to be reading something else.

At Sol fest thouse guys repeatedly told kids to fuck off, and treated them like shit, these kids looked up to those guys and respected them a ton, but when they finaly got to meet them in person, they where complete assholes back. Not really a cool thing to do in my mind especially when you are in a position where you need to be acting like hte role model the kids think that you are.

As far as pics, that mag sure seemed to be more bro-brah than most, they sat on more images than anyone else, and they are the only mag that repeatedly sent my stuff back damaged, and in a very unprofesional manner.

Sure Freeze did stand for something good at the time, but lately they havent done much, with the exception of the on going US open. Maybe they would of put outa better quality mag that more readers would have subscribed to if they wernt to busy trying to be cool

    - Those guys, Jerk, Micah or Flip wouldn't tell a kid to fuck off, maybe it was some bro brah intern. But you were there and I wasn't.

-No arguement there, a couple of others are getting that way too.

Freeze is gone, it sucks for some not for others, but as a photog one less mag is one less paycheck, or chance of a paycheck.

Very true, Im just hoping this paves the way for a better magazine to inter the market place, or that it will allow Powder and the rest of the ski mags to grow, and increase there content via more advertising dollars coming htere way instead of another mag.

Eh? Most ski companies have a limited add budget. Fewer magazine's to spread the budget around on = more $/magazine; more $/magazine = more money to spend on magazine/shareholders; more money to spend on magazine = more money for photographers. Just a theory. From a business standpoint I wouldn't be surprised to see one or two more ski makes fold/morph into something different. In N. America we've got Ski, Skiing, SBC Skiier, Ski Canada, Powder, Freeskiier, Backcountry, Couloir, Telemark Skiier - that's quite a few titles for the marketplace - they all have their niches, but that's still alot of titles for almost the same add base.

Funny you say that, rummor has it that Skiing mag is undergoing quite a staff change / revamping of hte entire magazine including its market place and a name cange. Suppsoedly its going to be called MOUNTAIN next year and feature content that is aimed more at the Powder readership and younger.

But its from the smae folks, so i wouldnt hold my breath on it being very good.

Some suit is gonna come up with the save-all answers because he answers to some beancounter's numbers, which influence the decisions made by the board of directors of some big corporation that tells the CEO to send in the suit - and what do you get?
