So sorry to hear about Kaya, Buzz...we had to put our dog down this past May too...always remember the good times...she will be waiting for you too.

    Kristine

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Sorry Buzz. We'll be doing the same thing this week. For my son and me Sport is our first dog, it's damn hard but is obviously the best thing to do at this point.
    Carry on.

    Unhappy RIP KAYA

Dear Buzz, The Doggie Prayer really hit home with me today. I wish that I had a copy of it to have read last year when I put my Shepherd (Brandy) to rest. Hold on and remember you did the right and best thing for her.Spoil the other dog and give Erica a hug for me.See ya, Kendall

Hang in there Buzz. Making that call is incredibly difficult. I recall having to make that call several years ago for my dog. Not easy.

Hey Buzz, I'm very sorry about your loss. I had to do the same thing once for a pet kitty I'd had for 16 years. It was time, but it was still very very emotional for me. Hang in there!

This was the first thing I saw when I logged one this morning and I've been trying to think of exactly how to convey my sorrow for you and your family since then. I am at a loss to find the right words other than just to say how very sorry I am for you at this moment. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you, take care.

Sorry Buzz. While I've never had to do this personally, I've seen how hard it can be. My sister's pooch was like a member of the family. One of the best dogs I've ever known. Putting her down was one of the hardest and most emotional decisions my sister ever made. Still it was for the best. Her dog had cancer all over her body and was just a shell of her former self. Still she lived a good life and was loved very much. Which sounds like the life you gave Kaya.

There is one best place to bury a dog.
If you bury him in this spot, he will
come to you when you call - come to you
over the grim, dim frontier of death,
    and down the well-remembered path,
    and to your side again.

And though you call a dozen living
dogs to heel, they shall not growl at
    him, nor resent his coming,
    for he belongs there.

People may scoff at you, who see
no lightest blade of grass bent by his
footfall, who hear no whimper, people
who may never really have had a dog.
Smile at them, for you shall know
something that is hidden from them,
and which is well worth the knowing.

The one best place to bury a good
dog is in the heart of his master.

it beats hangin' out with that dumb cracker

    Sorry for your loss, Buzz.

I hope it helps to see that you are not alone here, including myself. We may have to let our oldest one go to sleep as early as tonight.

As mentioned by some of us, its important to remember the good times, the long life, and that she is happy and in peace and comfort now.... and that one day you will see each other again.

    Hang in there,

Thanks everyone for the support. Maggots are simply awesome people.

I have some closure now, know we did the right thing, her pain is gone, the ordeal leading up to the end was unreal, so hard, but now we must move on and know that our Kaya had the best damn life a dog can have. We spoiled her rotten. Now Zanik will get all the love. He is still looking for her and that makes us both quite sad. His best friend and sister is gone and I am not sure he knows how to deal with this. He is moping and not cuddly like normal, like he is mad at us. I hope he snaps out of it soon.

Truth, our dogs are having a damn good time together. Maggot dogs! I remember very vividly when you put yours down. You and I are very alike when it comes to our dogs, I can tell.

Snowave, Fiddler: I know where you are at and I am truely sorry. It hurts too much.

Crinkle, prayers and vibes sent your way, keep me posted.

I like this a lot: "The one best place to bury a good dog is in the heart of his master."

The hard part is over, time to heal. I still miss her so much though. And I am tired of the tears, they just come out of the blue.

I cant get the picture out of my head of her body laying there on her favorite blanket and sayign goodbye one last time and closing the door to the room.

I miss my baby Kaya so much, the house feels wrong without her. I feel wrong.
