I'm having a board built for big OB. Stretch, round pin quad, EPS blank, double stringers and heavy glassing. This is a first board for me in the bigger realm. Any opinions on weighting? Length will be 8'4".

"Yo!! Brentley! Ya wanna get faded before work?"
Your fatass isn't enough?
How much you going to be selling the board for this winter after the first time you shit your $$$$ wetsuit?
Educational. If I shit my wetsuit this year, I'll be sure to message you first.

Epoxy or polyester? Heavy polyester glassing should be plenty. I had an 8'4" built (over a decade ago, geez), and did not add any additional weight.
There is a guy down this way that builds epoxy boards - everything from fish to tow in boards. He laminates strong magnets into the board so that you can apply piece of lead to the board and adjust weighting. They seem to work fine on my friends multi purpose board he had built for his sail around the world trip.
If you want to get into all of that. I'd just go for the glass. What does your shaper suggest?
Big OB is a commitment. You need to pick and choose the day/wave. A shift in tide can quickly go from fun to scary. Have fun.
There are a few decent big wave breaks just a bit south of you that are bit more user friendly. You know, channels and that sort of stuff.
Thanks, OTT. I'm definitely keeping an eye at the breaks just south of me, as well as a few further south. I'm not thumping my chest, here, I just want a bigger board than my step for when it gets bigger. Also, wanting to do a little exploring north of here. I've been out in OB ~15', and not planning on going much bigger than that.
Board is by Stretch, so obviously epoxy. I was assuming that the weight placement effects maneuverability and possibly tracking(?), but was also thinking it was more important when you're talking about boards in the 9-12' range, and geared more for HUGE surf.
