James Peak 13,294

[Mountain Freak]

It looked like James got a fair amount of snow over the past week so We decided to go for another summit/snowboard decsent. We were above the clouds just about the whole time and it was pretty cool looking down on them. There was about 8 inches of fresh powder, but some sections lower on the mountain were a little thin so bring your rock board. Lucked out with another beautiful day.

We were able to avoid the rocks the whole time. There was just one section where the snow thinned, otherwise it was great

Add a few glaciers with huge gaping crevasses, get rid of the trees, and your in Alaska.

Awww, you mean you didn't drop into Super star couloir??!! How did the North facing chutes look on the shoulder of James? Was there any snow in the basin below the face? Had some of my scariest turns ever down Shooting Star Couloir. I'm pretty sure we took the wrong entrance off the summit and ended up manuevering through some sketchy sections over the huge east facing cliff band. Not good times.

I really didn't look at the North facing chutes, but there was a ton of snow below the east face. I've seen the shooting star couloir before, looked sketch to me, but if the conditions were right probably a lot of fun. Bad conditions would make it a nightmare though.

What can I say... The Super star couloir looked just a little over my head
