    Logan Beta

So in about a week I'm flying into SLC. I'm meeting a friend who lives in Logan. We are supposed to head to Zion for a week of climbing, but my friend has doubts about the weather. Climbing wet sandstone is "iffy" (aka suicidal), so our bigwall plans might be killed.

So what else should we do?

I'll be bringing climbing gear (ice and rock) and skis. He's not much of a skier, but I imagine I'll drag him out and give him some lessons. I'm sure he's got plans about what to climb, but I figured I'd see what the assembled maggitude thinks.

So, assembled maggitude, what do you think?

Plenty of good BC skiing in Logan.

But if sandstone walls are your game, I would head to Zion. It only takes a day or two for sandstone to dry out and be safe again. I've spent mucho time climbing sandstone choss in Sedona-Zion-Moab. Usually after a day of sunshine you're good to go.

What are your intentions in Zion? Moonlight, freeroutes, aid routes?

No ice up here yet. And I doubt Provo Canyon is formed with all the warm weather. Great White Icicle in LCC might be in. Santaquin is doubtful for ice as well. Bozemanites are probably swinging tools in Hyalite.

The plan was to do the moonlight buttress and then "other stuff". We still might go for it, it all depends on what the weather looks like. Other thoughts include heading further south to red-rocks for some long free routes. We'll see I guess.

Moonlight is fun, but crowded. Do it mid-week if possible. It also gets fairly good early morning sun until about noon or 1pm this time of year. Get's cold on the wall in the evening.

    Good luck.
