The soles are glued and pressed onto the boot.
Maybe grinding them then attaching a real sole and rand to it?

People were talking that was done in an actual factory, not by a shop.

Not exactly an easy thing to do.
But otherwise those would be badass BC and ski patrol snowboard boots.

they are pretty sweet, although i think they probably don't fit into bindings too good. one of the things i love about boots and bindings these days is the sole fits into the base nice and snug. those look like they would be pretty high up off the base and probably a lot narrower. super f-ing stiff too i bet. i guess if you're using crampons, etc. they would be worth it, but one of the biggest issues with splitboards i hear is torsional slop edging on traverses. the sole not fitting snug into the base prolly would suck there.

now if you could get a clicker somewhere into those bitches you would be fuckin money for super extremo bc action...

    gonzo,

you use Voile Mountain Plates for these, not straps. Soooo much easier to flip a bale to get in and out than do multiple straps.

i sent a picture to Jake Burton's assistant to forward on to Jake. We'll see if we can the The Boss to make these.

I'll get that pic off to them too. My plumbers kid, engineering student, just got an internship at Burton doing product development. (not a bad deal for an unpaid job for an 18 year old, free Stowe pass and travelling expenses)

Actually Tap the above boots are for strap bindings. The boot itself (thermo liner and leather/synthetic upper) isn’t stout enough to snowboard in alone due to the lack of highback and instep strap. For your situation with your Lowa AT boots and plate bindings it’s different. They have enough support forward and backwards because they are plastic ski boots (as opposed to a soft snowboard boots). From one of your other posts it sounds like you’ve been digging the boots. Cool! I envy your lightweight rig and vibram soles.

They would be used with a regular strap snowboard binding (the lightest one possible for splitboarding). The sole may sit a little funny on the baseplate but I’m sure it could be dialed in.

It’s got the good vibram sole and protective rand, both increase the climbing capabilities of a snowboard boot (something they’ve never been famous for). It also has the crampon notches for real crampons as opposed to a strap crampon providing a better connection and more effective climbing.

When you move up the boot from the sole and the rand you get to a nice classic snowboard boot upper which will provide traditional feel and response in all directions. Very natural. The picture also shows a good liner upgrade to some thermos.

The stiff sole may effect the ride a little but I think it would be minimal.

It’s really cool to see mods like this.

    Here is another one.
Damn! I wonder if you could use the above Burton/vibram boot with this binding! Add an instep strap and make a Clicker version for me and gonzo and we in biz.

Oh, and I work with burton a little on the splitboard side. I’ll show these boots to my contact as well. We’ll be hittin’ em from all directions!
Who knows…now that K2 has a vibram boot, burton may follow suit.

my bad, bcrider, you and gonzo are right about these being for strap bindings, i suppose. i like the highback being built into the Mtn. Plate. on that second version. Maybe put a removable mid-step strap and you're in business with the mtn plate.

just more proof that even though the big companies have thrown money at the development side of the splitboard market, individual dirtbags on both sides of the ocean are making the real developmental progress with spare parts from their garages.

frizz - from my experience, those mini-spikes are kind of useless. too small to really do anything other than scratch the hell out of the topsheet of your board.

good to have the riderz come together here.
