A solid week in these parts. Never bothered with the lane, but got word from a mag that it was on fire and nearly empty late Friday afternoon. Wind cooperated for places up the coast most mornings, and the crowd ranged from me to 8. Nice have some solid south, and decent conditions come through in June. Glad to hear kingdouche got his board shorts. That guy might lose his shit otherwise. He is so cool. Can we touch him?

A couple of good Uppers days this weekend. It had dropped off today but still fine. It should be rideable this week, I might even get an evening session or two with the daylight, and then more swell on the way later this week into next weekend. Glad the southern hemi juice is starting.

Not a ton of surfing for me of late, but will have some nice chunks of time this weekend when the swell hits!

Big news in my life is that GF and I are moving to SLC in about 6 weeks to pursue school for her. Lucky me gets to keep my SD-based job, but work remotely, so I'll be able to make it back here as frequently as I'd like. I guess I'm trading the ski trips for surf trips for a bit, but I'm ok with that (for now). Looking forward to saving some $$$ for a couple years.

Isn't there a mag that makes the drive from SLC to socal/mex to surf frequently? If you see this PM me! Would love to carpool with you on some trips if you're interested.

Probably going to loan my 9' to a kook coworker to hold for me/surf like once a month, sell one of my shortboards, and keep the other - possibly try to buy something with a bit more volume since my arms won't ever be in good surfing shape Anyone in the area have something like 6' ish, shortboard/fish hybrid you want to get rid of?

    No company plane to use?

Nothing is a substitute for surfing to keep those surfer arms, but flow yoga sure does help.

I'm sure you'll be sad to see those 7 hours drives to the hill drop to twenty minutes.

Flow yoga...good to know. I'm trying to think of other things I like doing to stay active on those long, cold winter weeknights

Was thinking about trying to take up windsurfing too. Not sure if the reservoirs near SLC get consistent wind to do that, but I'd have to assume for a kook it would be fine. Where's the windsurfing forum!?

^^^get a kite. More fun, easier to transport, requires less wind, you do it on your short board.

And dawn patrol tour. Putting in 3k every morning will keep ya in shape.

Kite..will look into that. I figured it needed more wind since whenever kites are out down here it's HOWLING (like twice a year haha).

House -> Wildcat lot 25 mins sans traffic. DPs will work. Doesn't beat the 3 minute walk from house -> surf though.

A large kite needs maybe 15 knots. I've seen guys out with even less. Howling wind is more fun, but you use a smaller kite. Same applies with sails, but you can get going easier in low wind with a kite. It is higher up, where there tends to be more wind.

I don't wind sport, as I don't have enough time to chase surf when it is windy as well, but everyone of my friends who do have moved from sail to kite and rave about its ease. Another bonus, is you can hike your gear into places. Hold a 6'0" under your arm and the rest fits in a large pack.

New swell filling in nicely. NW flow is having its way offshore up here but still plenty rippable this morning. Should be a fun few days.

My family goes to the UP in Michigan every summer, so I do some windsurfing although I suck at it, I can't even do a water start. One of my cousins who lives in the bay windsurfs seriously. He does not even windsurf when we go to Michigan as it is usually not worth it for him unless it is really blowing. He can do flips, which is pretty crazy. He had a great life for a while, he is a pathologist so he has money and a ton of time. He used to ski Squaw every weekend and take a month off during the winter. In the summer he would windsurf every weekend and take a month to go to Maui. Now he has kids, so things have changed, but he really made me wish I liked science instead of math/statistics with that schedule.

Things have been very good down in Orange County of late. There is still some swell and more is starting to fill in. The water has also warmed up.

Jtran, I am more of a skier than a surfer, so I think I might be able to live in Salt Lake because I would love to ditch the 5.5 hour drive 3 weekends a month. I went to college out here and I am pretty ingrained so I won't be moving, but I always thought that if I had to I might be able to live in Salt Lake, Denver, Seattle or Portland. It would suck to give up surfing but having Snowbird/Alta/Solitude right there would really rock.

Hit Malibu this morning and it was sweet peeling goodness. Swell was waining by early afternoon. First time out in a year and my timing, pop up were sloppy and I felt out of shape but man it felt good to glide down a wave again

It looks like there should still be some surf this weekend, although it will be smaller. Still surfable though. This has been a very good run of surf. Hopefully I will be able to leave early Friday and get in a Trestles session.
