Nice write up. 2 days worth of surfing and we both decided to take 30 seconds worth of photos once the wind came up on the smaller day. Our priorities were in check
Just got out from surfing terramar in in Cbad, surprisingly good. Shoulder high with some better sets and super glassy, mobbed with LB'ers and 2 older guys ripping on shortboards. Lot of drop ins though, the no look kind.
Twas my first time there, I've driven bye the wave 5k times, so thought I knew what to expect. It's a longboard wave and the right is super mush, which is what I expected. But the lefts were really good, super rippable wave that holds up a shoulder similar to trestles. Lot of frontside lip smacks, very surprising. Round 2 tomorrow.
No pics or vid nor nothing special really. But did kick off my first full season in the North sea last sunday in 5 degr C water.
Sun and (small) surf. And a seal too.
Good times! Big smile.
piggity, if you wanna surf terramar tomorrow PM me. I'd be down to get out there. That's my usual LB spot. Has a big learner/family vibe, especially on weekends and sunny nights, and I think the drop ins come with that. FWIW I've only been dropped in on a couple times there in a year of surfing that spot a couple times a week. Maybe just a weird day.
Even when the on shores pick up Terramar stays glassy it seems, with the kelp, reef and cliffs there.
Glad you're in on the secret![]()
Head high barrels at State Park in San Clemente this afternoon. Should be just as good or better tomorrow....![]()

Some of that swell filtered up here. Chest high or so. Fun, small surf. CL was crowded with 6 or so out. Parking Lot was pretty much empty, but the swell was being pulled north. Weird day. Just could not get my speed up on some waves, while on others I was zipping. Got to figure that out. Anyway, looks pretty good this week with small swell and light winds. More swell next week, but will need to see what the winds do. Still, kind of nice that the south PAC decided to kick start just as the not PAC died down.
Water has warmed up as well with the s eddy flow.
Possibly this afternoon Jtran but during work hours. I'm not sure I want to see how crowded that place gets after work, even during work hours yesterday there were 65+ between the 2 peaks
Last weekend was good in north OC. Overhead in Newport in the morning, and the afternoon winds did not kick up for a while. It was absurdly crowded, but I surfed slightly later and missed the most packed time. I still wished I had gone to Trestles...
Yesterday I could not hold out. I left work an hour early and headed south. It was overhead and glassy, but very crowded everywhere. Uppers looked a bit like Rincon, but was packed to the gills. Cottons was actually less crowded then usual, so I staked out a spot slightly to the south, and pulled in inside left after inside left, my best session in a while. Eventually I went out to the pack, and was able to pick off a couple of overhead lefts. All in all a great day, and well worth leaving the office a bit early. It was overhead and glassy everywhere. Lowers looked great, but was much too crowded.

"I didn't have a grandfather on the board of some fancy college. Key word being was. Did he touch the Filipino exchange student? Did he not touch the Filipino exchange student? I don't know Brooke, I wasn't there."
^nice, that inside left is where I was camping out last week, fun little peak.
JT, forget the above post, if I do go it'll be 4pm or later. What time u going and whatcha riding? I'll be on a 5'10" chemistry beaker
65+ wtf? You must have been there on a REALLY weird day. If there's more than a couple people competing for the same peak that I am there that's a crowded day. Honestly I've surfed that spot in good conditions before or after work, never during, and it's usually about 5-10 for the dawn patrol, and 15ish or less in the PM. Might just be crowded since this S doesn't really seem to be doing anything south of Terramar?
Late report: got out in O-side this weekend, around Wisconsin St, a bit south of the pier. A peak to my north had about 20 people on it, but sat just south of that with 1 other guy and scored wave after wave, just him and I. Not really sure why nobody else paddled over. First time surfing O side in a while. Pretty interesting how much more lined up the surf seems there than many of the spots in Cbad. A little bigger on Sunday morning as well.
Last night as out just north of Terramar. Got out there and had 3 waves within 10 minutes, but then didn't really catch anything else good for the rest of the session. Think it was a combination of me being in the wrong place at the wrong time and the tide eating up a lot of the swell.
Piggity, I should be out at Terramar around 5:30 or so. I'll be on the 6 3 rusty. Black with grey chest wetsuit (descriptive, I know). If you see me parking I'm the guy with the tan moped with a surf rack on it.
Same place, kinda. There's really 3 main peaks there IMO, with that left being the most shifty. If crowds are rough there go up to the left to your north, just south of the yellow house. Or just go inside, most people that sit inside at Terramar are groms and beginners.
EDIT: I'll be out soon, I'll look for you
Were you out? Me and 40+ groms were out at middle peak. Think it took me 45 minutes to get my first wave, got about 6-8 fun waves towards the end, right as that thunder and lightning moved in. Thunder and lightning, wtf?
Panama has had sick past couple,of week massive surf on the Pacific side.
Check out the big ISA events heading to Santa Catalina)
^^^ I bet. Where abouts are you. Pics?
Super glass off last night. Oil like surface. Still a little bump/wired ness in it up here and the steep angle I less than perfect. Still had loads of fun an finished the session with a quick three fun zippers. Even found a little barrel section on one of them. Good times. Hoping the nw hold off for another day.
Gotta say, I really do enjoy the long period swells so much more than wind swell. When it starts working, you may have to wait around for the sets, but the reel so much better.
Conditions permitting, I see see if I can get BS720 to join me for some lonely sharky bowls this evening
Yea, I was out at the south peak right in front of the staircase down to the beach. Not sure what's up with the crowds last night, or what you had the day before. Honestly it's not really ever like that. Spring break? I dunno. Didn't see any of the regulars either, so probably mostly people from other parts of SD for the S swell like I'd thought.
Again, I had a couple fun inside waves when I first got out, but after I paddled into the main lineup and was competing with all the LBers I really didn't catch anything else.
If you were at the middle peak (in front of the yellow house) that seemed crowded as well, but the waves there looked GOOD if you could get them. Could see the right pretty well from where I was sitting, several times there would be 3 guys popping up on it. No fun.
Yup, yellow house. Definitely got my share of lefts, just didn't start out good. Don't bother going right on that wave on a shortboard, mushy beyond belief.
It was all regs on the left, possibly a few newer faces sprinkled in such as mine. Seemed like 50% of the lineup was cbad high groms. One of the guys I was chatting with has surfed there since the 70s and said that particular left in front of the yellow house works extremely well on steep souths, probably 180 degrees or so. Too much West in it and it doesn't work. 2 guys were screaming at each other mid session, fun times.Didn't see any of the regulars either, so probably mostly people from other parts of SD for the S swell like I'd thought.
But the crowd thinned around 6:30pm and some kid handed me a nice set wave. He accidentally dropped in on me a few waves later and was about to kick out, I sat back in the pocket and told him to keep surfing it. Paddled back out after that and got another sick wave from the wave gods to pay it forward, the kid high fived me 10 minutes later as I walked by his car. Good way to end the session that started out with major suckage.
I would have though the tide killed it. Light seemed good. Clear to Monterey from my house and the bay was all lit with the noon. Anyone else out? Slot? I might try for a per dawn tomorrow. Not sure where I'm headed this evening. Wind feels like it has a little more behind it today.
cool piggity, glad you got some. If conditions permit I'll be out there again this evening. If swell drops off though prob. on the funboard
There were some solid sets last night. There were two of us in the slot and couple of guys hanging on the inside. There was someone getting in as I left and possibly a few others showing up. Just checked the cameras an looks like a there is still some energy left. Plan to be in the water around 4:30 or 5:00. The forecast looks good for Tuesday.
Will be up at Alpine this weekend. Last weekend was super fun!
To do list: Ski, Mtn Bike, Bodyboard or Skate?
Trestles doing it’s thing today....

A lot cleaner down there. Took a quick drive this evening to walk some bluffs. Decided to come home to clean brush and put a second coat of paint on some brackets for the deck. Still swell in the water but the super steep angle and W wind either killed things or packed folks close together. I checked a certain left, and while no one was on it, it just did not draw me in. Guess yesterday sated me.
