Nice photos PW, looks like your week sucked worse than milk tea bags did, or not.

NW picked up overnight, Double over kne to waist+ but still breaking through super high tide. One fun right with a couple good turns. I usually love double over ankle but this double over knee to waist hit the sweet spot.

maine, hey 2 in a row, whoohoo!!!

pretty fun morning. north wind meant north end of York beach. waist/chest some bigger with mostly clean conditions and a light texture from time to time. some fun ones in both directions. the cordless monkfish is so loose yet has a ton of bite. such a fun board. my gal counted 50 folks out on the north end of the beach. I only had a couple of them around me from time to time. they all spoke French, near and far pretty much.

tomorrow morning's looking bout the same, maybe a tad smaller. may need the winter suit as paddle out air temp will be mid 20's. winter comes.

    nice picks PW!

    night night

50 beckies in the water at york? In november? What has happened? dear, god.

surfed with about 120 other tonight. wind storm never really materialized, but the the open coast was victory at see with the buoys blowing a sustained 28 knots. no smiles had 25 or so on it, and really did not look all that good at all. thought about leveling dirt. drove a mile, figuring maybe threes would be surfable. two out, and i thought about leveling dirt. cruised into town and saw many, many out. found a spot to park figuring i'd at least take a look. not quite firing, but looking very fun and so many fucking people out it ceased to matter that there was a crowd. i knew i would never surf alone or with just a few people. figured id get exercise. found a few decent ones, but missed the gems. there were three i should have dropped in on, just because they ended up not making it. oh, well. more of this stuff for daybreak tomorrow, and then off to the zoo with the boy.

Been a couple weeks of flat up here. Finally starting to pulse again. Knee to waist. Zero wind perfectly clean fun runners. Small board is all fixed up. Feeling like a kook on it but solid day. Solid rides.
Nice pics! I'll try to post some this week. Should get really good.

yup. the fact that it was a weekend didn't help. ZERO folks out this am. looked about knee to waist, but not quite enough frequency couple with a too low a tide to get me out there. maybe early afternoon if the mtb doesn't win.

seacoast is blowing up, but still easy to surf peaks alone. even with 50 out yesterday, I never had anyone taking off on the waves that were coming in at me. kinda nice

Yeah, I am a big fan of hollow beach breaks as well

Not an old seawall out there, that is Seal rock in San Clemente, an off shore reef straight out from Calaphia St where all the seals hang out. There is another offshore reef a little bit north called Mariposa Reef that will break on the correct swell. On flat days we take the paddleboards out there and check out the seals & great whites

Pretty windy and shitty here today, still waist to chest high Texas, but none for me.

looks like the mtb may lose today. winds have lightened, swell period has bumped up over 7 sec and the angle has come around a bit. should be

Omg. Why would you ever want to wear a 5/4? The shame.

I do say, I have witnessed and evolution of rog. When he first started posting in this thread he lived by the one suit/one board/one love mantra. Now he has a 5l/4 and a 4/3? And will even board short it in summer? And ride different short boards. Or even an eight foot? Bravo sir. May this demonstrate there could even be hope for pinkyfidhboy. Although a larger leap of faith must be taken.

Shoulder to head this morning. Tide was a bit full for it, but some real fun ones ridden. More of a day of getting a lot of decent waves with a bit of juice, than anything replicating perfection. Got that one solid turn that I needed to make the morning. More Lon period by tonight and significantly decreasing winds. Might even go off shore in the mornings for a bit.

The curse is broken and I am again able to talk in relative terms. Could be overhead tomorrow.

    Fingers crossed.

    .

And the surf goes the other way...it is flat! Was at least knee + at noon. My kid can't wait to go to school at UCSC and he's only a sophomore.

wrong. I've always used a 5/4 from November to may and a 4/3 the rest of the year. one board, yes. I do ride 2 now. the 2nd one on rare occasion (8').

pleasant 2 hour sesh this afternoon from 1230-230. mostly knee to thigh, but waist high sets were not that uncommon. clean conditions and only one other guy out WAAAAAAY down the beach. was sooooooo comfy in the 5/4. left the hood off. chose the 8' today. hadn't ridden the gf's board in quite some time. fun had some pretty rockin rights that held up the whole way and allowed for some pretty fast t2b rail to rail turns.

doesn't look like much happinen till maybe a bump on Thursday/Friday.

    get some left coasters!

Wrong? Are you saying there is not a chance for him, then? So sad.

I could of sworn you were spouting off about how there was no need for anything other than a 4/3. This was in July or something. Maybe you e-fooled me into thinking you just paddle around a while bunch with the te whole 30 in 90 thing.

So if you are not evolving, then what?

I've gotta read back and catch up. Hiked the narrows last weekend, but came home yesterday afternoon to what looked like pretty decent surf.

Have a friend from VT (who grew up surfing in NH) that is in the process of moving out here. He's staying with us until he finds a place. Took him out this morning for some warbly high tide waves for his first session in 7 years. He caught a couple and was real stoked on being back in the water.

Yeah, man, but pigs has transcended. That shit is for reals. Narrows if fun, eh? Good stuff. We did it in spring and the water was running and cold. Whole stretches floating down river with packs on our backs and using a branch to keep us off the boulders as we went through rapids. Wild.

This morning had the sickness, but it looks good right now. Chowing lunch and heading out the door. Gonna bring a bigger board along just in case, but hoping for only 8' or so, so I can keep on riding the 6.0.

CWC is some sort of amateur invite only contest. Pretty sure the guy I saw complete (what I think is) a kick flip and keep on riding is in the running. Some young talent at the lane this morning, but gawd was it getting swamped. Hoping the day has groomed it a bit up north.

seriously, have you visited that school lately? the old alterna-UCSC is dead. It's like a bastardized new england liberal arts yuppie playground filled with snotty rich kids .. in california.

still one hell of a stunning view from campus though.

We cruised thru it last yr, but didn't do an official tour. He spoke to a few kids at a local surf shop and he was just stoked on all the local breaks and the mtn biking.

We live in yuppie land NE anyway. Nothing is like what it used to be.

It's only 17k in-state...but 37k out of state. Need to figure an angle on that one if possible. I hear it is difficult to get into almost any UC school, so would a white boy from NH add some diversity?

  23. #2448
    Hugh Conway Guest
It would. But they don't want that kind of diversity. Dunno, I'd take UCSD or even UCSB in a heartbeat if you are paying that kind of money. Unless you are going to buy junior a house on the west side like it seems half of 'em do these days.

I'm sure there are still some crappy drum circles to join in on.

As for houses on te west side, he better hurry up and buy as they are rebounding fast. It is silly what my neighbors paid for their house this past July and now two shacks around the corner are asking $680k. And they don't even have a view of the ocean. Meh.

Past two days have been fun sub 8' goodness. Nothing epic, but I am logging some decent water time this week. This morning was fun. After negotiating the cliff and jumping on the beach I had to walk around the dead seal to paddle out. Wonder what kind of animal could take a bite like that.

I was thinking more like a shed in Truckee. I 'might' be able to pull off a W2. The savings is stupid for instate.
