We got a nice little bump in the swell the last couple days in BCS. Fun size, fast and steep. Shoulder to maybe head high+ sets, but that's enough when you're bouncing off the rocks on the bottom...oh and water is 84*

Yeah. Sets are far spaced on this one, but they have been good up here when they come. Looks like more consistent today at head high.
I think my scale is off. must've been NJ double overhead as it was california shoulder high.

trust me, I'd never post about waist high surf

    Pile-O-shit yesterday....

    HB dawn patrol-(cliffs/dog beach)
Head High (for me at least), walled, textured, shoulder to shoulder crowded but left with a giant shit eating grin

    State Park afternoon-
Chest high, heavy NW wind, walled & breaking almost on the beach, still left with an even bigger shit eating grin

After being crippled for 10 days with a lower back injury, I really thought I was never going to surf again (just me being dramatic) or walk for that matter. Yesterday was just so epic to be in the water, catching waves & popping right up with no pain, I could give a fuck if they were walled or blown out, just pure stoke.

Headed to State Park for DP sess, smell ya there

    Then there is this...

    http://www.surfline.com/templates/article.cfm?id=103366
"I rolled to the top of the shark and punched it in the mouth and got one shot in the eye," Horton continued. "I thought I was going to die unless I put up the best fight I ever had."

After eight or so blows, that knuckle jab to the eye was all it took for the shark to spit out the board and accept defeat. Horton grabbed what was left and paddled to shore with another surfer, the shark still lurking beneath... probably sulking.
I would like to think I would do the same thing
"In a perfect world I'd have all 10 fingers on my left hand, so I could just use my right hand for punching."

lower back, eh. take up pilates and yoga or just plain old PT stretch and core strengthen. i've had my issues since about age 20. it keeps popping up and breaking me down, but if i stay on top of my routine, like a good herpes wart, it stays hidden from view. but when i lag, i end up spending a few days or more on my back.

also, giving up snow boarding for skiing was one of the best things i ever did for my back. and my pride. good to hear you are back at it. but check again, i bet those waves where only knee to waist high

it was literally knee to waist high today, if you mean literally, as when measured with a literal measuring stick, depending on how is was calibrated. spent to much time waiting, even though I was almost alone; an egg would have been ideal for wave count, but i think i still preferred having the 6.0. Think i'll take friday off and try to get my buddy in the water at the beach saturday morning. he is hurting with family life and been busy with work life and really needs to get his ass wet. might have to settle for some knee to waist high.

fingers crossed the mid term models are accurate. i sure could use a little decent swell and clean conditions while my little guy's aunt is in town. she gives me shit for ditching her, but she really does not mind. i think.

Wish these pics were mine. Still kinda blown away the swell didn't get in here really well. Just a wee bit south it was seriously pumping. I was out all day on Monday when these photos were taken and we didn't even get close to that.

Fixed up the board today. Sanding, glassing, resin, oh my. Nothing promising for us folks up here on the models. Hopefully it changes.

Be careful what you wish for. I'm often jaded and grumpy.

I might just you up on an east side bed and tour guide. I hit up Palm Springs each April with my family. I like to leave my wife and kid with my parents and either surf or ski a few days. The past two years have been thin, so I never made the drive north. This past year was Trestles and the year before that I toured the Tram and Kauhitz (sp), but really like te idea of heading up the Eastside. I know my way around the Mammoth Crest zone but pretty much nothing else. Your at June, right? Lots if good looking stuff it seems every time I drive by there. I'm also interested in exploring Bishop.

Knee to waist high today. Not even gonna bother talking about it.

Got the Slowvo packed up and we are off to San Elijo State Beach for a weekend camping trip. We will be in spot 163 in the north end if any San Diego mags want to stop by for a session and a cold one afterwards. Prayin for some surf.
Never in U.S. history has the public chosen leadership this malevolent. The moral clarity of their decision is crystalline, particularly knowing how Trump will regard his slim margin as a “mandate” to do his worst. We’ve learned something about America that we didn’t know, or perhaps didn’t believe, and it’ll forever color our individual judgments of who and what we are.

Nothing like waking up at 1am with your ass on the floor because your air mattress has a slow leak Threw that fucker out of the tent, walked the pups and spent the next 5 hours fitfully sleeping. I honestly think my tent camping days are over. Wife hates RV's, but that is what I need going forward.
Ok morning session today. Pretty intermittent, but the sets were shoulder high. Bailed at noon as I could not sleep on the ground tonight. I am too old for that shit.

Geez, SoCal makes a man soft. I remember when I was a kid, when we camped, we slept on nothing but the bottom of the tent. Now a days one needs a footprint, down sleeping bag, air mattress, foam pad and oxygen pillow.

Surf was, you guessed it, knee to waist high. Charts are looking interesting for the start of next month.

Actually OT, it is age (55) and not wanting a stiff back that makes this old dood soft.

mtbcat, glad to hear those made you happy. I was a lot happier on the 192 version. I was thinking futon, but they likely take up to much room, so I will go to REI and see what they have in the form of tough mattresses for our next trip. One more flat air mattress will push me over the edge.

truth be told, i air mattressed last summer. it has only been on one camping trip and used for maybe 15 days by different guest, but the coleman has held up (if that helps). my lady is also anti rv. maybe you could get her interested in one of those new hippster mini trailers that i have been seeing around. easy enough to tow and fairly low key.

^^^^come on, you can say it. Knee to waist high?

Was pleasantly surprise today. Had a window, so I took it, expect a jog, a stretch, a paddle followed by a jog. Found some nice double knee to waist high surf at no smiles. This local storm stuff was actually a bit if fun.
