Got two sessions in yesterday: an early morning sesh with some nice clean swell coming in from the N (I think about 1m@9sec). Caught a few nice waves and was able to bottom turn and then steer nicely down the line.

Evening session was completely blown out with an onshore/ sideshore force 5 causing lots of windchop (and windchill...). Arms were still tired from the morning session and I was a little overwhelmed by the choppy walls of water moving by i.e. I couldn't find my groove.

Still though, any kind of time in the water is good for a beginner like me.

Killer session at second lot OB today. Piping offshores, and tide improving. Should be good all day. Can't wait to get out this afternoon.

Pt Loma Buoy at 4.5'@16, negative low tide pushing in right now. Gonna drive north to a trestles-like left to see if I can out paddle the crowd for a few set waves, wish me luck.

    PW7,

I love Middles when Lowers is a zoo. Such a fun wave. I don't know why more people don't hit it up when Lowers is a couple of feet overhead, but I'm glad they don't.

The cams/reports are really killing me today. I might be able to get out this evening for a Newport session, but I promised to spend time with the fiance so Uppers is out.

Tomorrow I have more freedom. Hopefully things will stay good.

I really should not look at cams/reports from the office. It's pretty masochisitic.

    Clownshoe,

That left looks like heaven. Is it as fun as it looks? Glad to see the Bahamas are treating you right.

I didn't get much of a ski season this year, due to wedding planning, but south swell season has started off nicely. Can't wait for some spring suit worthy water.

I need to go there, asap. My buddies just flew down to right hand sand point heaven yesterday and I'm sitting here typing on the internets, I need to hop a flight to some tropical island pronto

Enough dreaming, kinda fun today. HH to few ' OH on the better sets but bigger sets were inconsistent. Inside was about chest to shoulder and lot more consistent. Picked off 2 set waves and about 10-12 inside ones that would peel perfect along the reef/sand bottom, Shoulders are feeling numb and rest of my body is aching from all the good times. Hopefully back at it tomorra

Another spectacular day @ Trestles, it was a fucking zoo as expected but once again me and 4 other dudes had Middles to ourselves with HH to OH lined up surf all day. Put in a second session at State Park in the afternoon and it was super hollow and big, pretty much got destroyed before I could get out of any barrels but still tons of fun.

Spent the morning at the hook chilling on the beach with my son. Okay waves. Crowd of 30 or so and five guys paddling for each wave. Every once and a while a real nice o e would show up, but mostly it was meh. Crowded, tho.

Surfed a race track tonight. Super inconsistent, but when they came, they were bombs. So many I could not even touch. Folded over boxes. But the ones I got were pretty damn fun. Utility day for the spot. Hope to get it good once this summer.

Having a beer at a beach break on the way home. Breaking here as well.

Folded over boxes? Lol, true surfer slang... I've no idea what you're talking about but then again, I'm a total beginner.

^Sounds like some of the waves pitched square. There's a break called 'the box', this is what I envision while reading his post

Board is loaded up but I'm moving slow. Sore as hell, thinking it's from the 60+ waves 100 yard waves this week. I know, Third world....

had an OK session last night. Had 6 or so waves in a pretty big crowd, but nothing too spectacular. High tide hit a bit before I got out, and stuck around all the way until the sun set. Tons of high tide lumps that I'm sure were just great waves when Piggity was in the same spot earlier before the tide went up. Either way, last night was glassy, warm and the sunset was pretty cool.

Swell still holding on by the looks of the buoy reading, but tide will be even higher this evening, so may just wait until tomorrow morning to get out again.

Shackage? Forgot what that feels like, refresh my memory

Lucked into a bunch of waves today despite a fading swell. Think I made some of my best frontside turns on 1 wave evah. Drop in, pump around a big section, bring it straight to the top, ride out, repeat 4 times. I had it full throttle and the snap off the lip felt juicy

I normally don't surf vertical but those turns felt pretty legit. Too many waves to describe but many of the days other turns felt similar. Tomorrow I'll probably kook out, a lot.

A few final shots from Eleuthera.

Overall, a great surf and beach vacation spot.

I was surprised at how easy it was to get here. Easy cheap flights from Fort Lauderdale. We flew to Nassau and took a ferry to Eleuthera, but if I were to do it again I'd skip Nassau and just fly straight to Eleuthera. It's just a grimy cruise port with lots of dudes hassling you on the beaches, and not much else to recommend it.

We stayed between Gregorytown and Hatchet Bay.

    We stayed here: http://www.surfershavenbahamas.com/

A classic rustic surf shack. We rented the apartment, so we had our own kitchen and balcony, which was nice. I only get to surf once every couple years, so I love to be able to see the surf spot from the house. This spot did not disappoint. Here's the view from the balcony on one of the good days with the sets rolling in.

It was offshore and clean 4 out of 10 days, which was fine for me. It wasn't a "surf" trip, so I would have been tearing my hair out if there was good waves every day that I couldn't get on, and my wife would have divorced me if I surfed every day. The locals said that we got lucky for April/May. Hurricane season and winter has the most consistent surf.

If it was onshore on the Atlantic side, then it was beautiful and calm on the Caribbean side. It's your classic clear water tropical spot. This kind of stuff blew my Canadian mind. Endless empty white sand beaches up and down the whole island.

One day of fishing and we filled our fridge. We were eating fresh fish twice a day for the rest of the trip.
We went out with Captain Z. A great day.

This spot was a rocky/reef left, with a nice deep sand channel to paddle out. While I was there the biggest sets were closing out the channel, which made for some quality beatings for me. The rocky/reef right on the other side of the sand bar apparently works at bigger swell sizes. The loc's said that this spot holds up to double overhead, and turns into a nicer right. They said that there are lots of other spots up and down the coast to check out. I only surfed this spot, so I can't say what the rest of the island's breaks looks like.

A fantastic trip overall. Thanks to the TGR Surf mags who gave me some great tips on duck diving and wave catching in here over the last couple years. I tried to put them to use, and took my kook factor down a bit.

great trip Clownshoe, thanks for the report.

I had no idea there was decent surf in the Bahamas. Seen great pics from Rincon in Puerto Rico, otherwise I thought it was just calm water in a big clear pool.

Any other decent surf spots in the Caribbean? Sure an easy sell to the family, and waves for me.

Ya, that's why this worked so well for us. The wife wanted the clear calm water for swimming and snorkelling, and I wanted the surf, so this was perfect.

I don't know about the rest of the islands, but any of the places that face the open Atlantic should have some kind of surf.

This past swell delivered nicely. I had some challenges with getting free time, wind, tides, whatever, but even scored head high plus waves yesterday morning and some fun waist/chest high in the afternoon. South wind is up today generating a little wind swell. I bet FP has something fun to ride, but it is mostly victory at sea. Looks like we have quite the lull starting today with nothing of substance on the radar. Maybe these NPAC systems that are on the charts will give us something to consider.

Glad you scored Clownshoe. Sounds like a great trip.

ate'em, there is plenty of surf in the Caribbean. Barbados, Jamaica, and as stated, basically any island that is open to the east. While the Atlantic is not quite the swell maker that the Pacific is, these are islands and they do pick up swell. Fall and Winter are the season, but some of them (Jamaica for one) have kind of a locallized wave maker, with stiff east winds developing late morning and building wind swell, with a light west wind coming up over night and grooming the dawn patrol surf.

    Barbados.

Just got out from a super surprising session at Terramar. SW winds left some bump on it, but nothing that wasn't manageable. One other guy was out, so we just split the sets and basically had limitless waves. Honestly almost had 30 in 90, though it was more like 20 in 120. Clean, long, waist high lefts running all the way to the beach. And as an added bonus, got to surf in a light drizzle for a bit, which made things even more fun.

Piggity, this is the Terramar I hope you can get sometime. Come up when a forecasted S isn't peeking and you'll see what I mean.

Best session in several weeks for me

Cool man, glad you scored. I have been enjoying my sessions out there even with lots of people, most of the long time local guys have been fun to chat with. But I roll solo so that's always a plus. I'm not going to put that spot on blast anymore than it already has been, I think those guys were even surprised at how big the crowds were recently. I'll just call it that reef in north county from now on. I think a lot of those guys are all dialed in with the surf industry. Some guys seem really well connected to most of the top shapers and pros in the area, they all surf really well too.

Cloudy and rainy morning for the 3rd day in a row, then the sun comes out. Feels like Hawaii. Flat here, maybe few bumps up north. Possible New Zealander setting up on the forecast models.

Kind of a weird system, eh. Funny thing is up here it is real hard to tell the difference between this weather rand the typical fog other than the afternoon winds being sub-gale. Just really feels like the usual marine layer fog. Too bad there is no swell. Kind of decent conditions through most of the day right now. Wind should pick up tomorrow though.

yeah, past couple weeks have been odd...rain, some thunder and lightning, but still waiting on some snow. Storm currently pushing off the ice under new zealand and looks like potential for a few more systems after it, hoping for a couple south swells strung together.

    ^^^that would be nice.

Still hoping for a little wnw mid period starting late this weekend. The mrs. heads to LA for six days starting this next Thursday. Should be some epic swell around them, as I will be confined to the shore break with the little guy. Unless I score a baby sitter.

Current wave model shows seas in the 38-40' range. Few smaller systems forming behind it over the next 100+ hours on the forecast models.
