Not really an issue in town. The combination of the bay and thick kelp beds deters most whites. They prefer spots up the coast where there is less continuous kelp and the shelf drops directly into the ocean.

Coming from the east, he will likely find town to be plenty fun. At least for his first winter.
Yes, he is officially a Slug starting this Sept. The biggest issue is where is he going to put his board(s), mtn bike, snowboard, and skis. I think the board and bike with make the cut. No car on campus first two years, so his skiing may be limited.

The winds died down and things cleaned up pretty nicely for the evening session at San O last night. Probably chest high and pretty glassy towards the end, not too many people out there either.

Is there a big skunk population in San Clemente? It will be a miracle if me and the dog make it through the week without getting sprayed. They are all over the campground, ballsy little f'er too. Several snuck right up to the picnic table last night while I was cooking dinner.

Bike and board (and a rack) are a must. I've never seen a board on the bus, but the slog back up the hill is not too bad if you are young and healthy. There is great MTB right out the back of campus, and you can get around here decently on a bike. No car keeps him further from the sharks. He will find people with cars though. I see lots of slugs working their way up the coast a bit.

That would be a great idea. I was going by to say I might be able to get him up the hill a few times. And there are ride shares, even out of SC. He could even throw his step up board in there come spring and store his fish over winter.

Yeah, he'll have to figure this all out. When we toured the campus we saw boards and wetsuits on decks of the dorms, so they're making it happen somehow. Seems like they'd have to allow boards on the bus. I mean shit, it IS Santa Cruz right!

That is possible. I'm not on the bus often, but I have not seen them. And the busses don't go along the direct shore line for the most case. So there would be a fair amount of waking to get to steamer.

Can he have a scooter on campus? Like a Vespa type of thing? All the alcoholics who have lost their license in town have those to get to the surf.

Nothing special in Orange County this weekend but good enough to get out. It looks fun on the Uppers cam this morning.

Good enough to get out in Orange County this weekend. Nothing special, but still worth it. The water is warming up.

The last three days were pretty dang awesome in No. LA County. Well overhead sets on Wednesday, with Tuesday and Thursday a notch smaller. Last night had 4 guys out with head to overhead sets rolling through nice and consistently. Love it!

Been nice up here as well. The forty minutes between first light and the crowd showing up at the Lane on Thursday was nice. Been a while since I've had it so good and empty at that spot. That is a fun fun wave.

    ^^^^Brazil???

Been a fun week. The past weekend was much smaller, but there were even some small barrels to be had Sunday. Good to get in the water again.

We have super warm water for this time of year and some waves to go with it.

There is talk of the possibility of more sharks though

The swell was the first real energy from the southern hemi this year. It is nice to have the south Pacific back in action. I am trying to stay around head high right now, as my arms are noodles and my skills are off after a winter and spring of mostly skiing. It is great to get back in the water though. It is down right now but hopefully we are in for a good summer.

Glad everyone got to enjoy this swell.

I've read Saturday for around here. Doubt there will be much worth looking for until Monday. Maybe Late Sunday. Always nice to be surprised.

Looks like it could be a solid seven days of over lapping swell, followed by smaller background energy.

Yesterday it was pretty flat around here. We hung at 4 mile and there were a few thigh high waves, but real low energy.

Just checked the Lowers cam and it is absurdly crowded even for Lowers.

It looks like Steamer's is pumping. Hope you are getting some Ott.
