Fun last night. Not big, but super glassy and pretty consistent. Got a bunch of fun ones.

A rare weekday afternoon session for me last night. I surfed Newport around 30th street. About chest high on the sets, with nice long walls and nice glass, but too soft. I was on a fish so I still had fun, but it would have been a struggle on a smaller board. I did get some really fun lefts, and they were long, even though it was too soft. With one more foot and a bit more power it would have great, as it was glassy and the shape was awesome, but it just would not quite cooperate. Still a fun session though. Hopefully you guys who don't ski this weekend will get some of the surf coming.

Just got back from an afternoon session at 28th street in Newport. All morning I was checking the cameras while waiting to get out, wishing I could be surfing, worried the wind would come up. It did, but it did not destroy things too badly. It was bumpy, but with some peaky lined up lefts that were head high to slightly overhead, and very few people in the water. Overall a fun session despite a bit of wind.

Tomorrow I get back in the water after a bunch of days on snow. Conditions look to be improving. What a winter.

It looks like California will get more swell this weekend. For the first time in a while I will not be in Mammoth. It looks like it will be big, to I will be looking for somewhere sheltered, as I have only gotten out on occasion this winter.

It really is great when you get to choose between classic Mammoth steeps in good condition and good surf. I need a break from the drive after three snow weekends in a row, so it looks like I will be staying here. I really love California. I hope everyone else gets some.

Tomorrow looks interesting. About 10@17 from the WSW. Game on for here in town. Mitchell's might be all time as that tide drops tomorrow mid day.

West Cliff is going to be insane this afternoon. As long as this swell does not swing too far south Swift to Mitchell's is the call. I surfed NBs just now. Could use a lower tide. But it is already big, fast, hollow and long. Looks a little I consistent now, parked at Stockton, but this swell is just arriving.

I wonder how some of the semi mysto SW breaks looked this morning with the higher tide. I have a buddy in Big Sur checking in on that region's gem. I almost headed north to the black hole, but with limited time, stayed close. Can't wait for the afternoon show.

Starting to hit directly from the west.

Have some iPhone video of where this winter's swell has carved a hole out from under west cliff and a new water spout hole has formed in the side walk. The waves just slam this park of the cliff directly. So cool to watch with a swell like this.

Frustrating afternoon at 28th street in Newport. About shoulder high, the sets would stand up on an outside bar with a nice looking peak and long tapered walls, then back way off until the very inside, when it was practically shorebreak. There were a couple I got on the outside bar, where it was basically cutting back and pumping the nose to stay in it before it would line up on the inside. Those waves were fun, but they were very hard to get even on a fish. If it had been a foot or two bigger it would have been really great. Head high or a foot overhead would be perfect for that sand bar, but shoulder high could not quite do it.

For the first time in a while I won't be at Mammoth this weekend. It should be fun down here, a trip to Trestles might be in order. Hope the rest of you guys score.

Aosta is on the Italian side of Mt Blanc. You mean you are in Chamonix?

He's got a poster on the wall of his moms basement in Bishop. I'd suggest not throwing that rock son, as moma will come down stairs and see you are cooking up the meth again.

Again, either a poser or a dick waver. Either way, kingfisher is just a rotting piece of shit.

Looks like more surf this weekend for socal. This week has been good in HB, not so good in Newport. I am going to Mammoth at 4 am on Saturday but it looks like I should be able to sneak in an afternoon session on Friday if the wind cooperates. Good luck to the rest of you.

The winds turned on west yesterday afternoon and we are looking stormy for the next two weeks. Time to either head to the Sierra or SB.

Yesterday was interesting. CDIP showed ~6@12, but with a new moderate swell arriving, some buoys showed 17s. Headed north during my son's school and ended up at my usual ledge. Typically with a buoy reading like that it would be a playful head high.

Instead the waves were a few feet overhead and just exploding on the reef. Gaping barrels explosions. Pick and choose the right ones explosions. And dodge the wrecker sets that were doubling up to about 10' and closing out. As in closing down the channels. Sure, the tide was a bit low, but what a surprise. Surfed with two other regulars and we just could not figure out what was making it all happen. To give you an idea of the power, one of them was considering driving up to Mavs, as one would expect the wrecker waves to be breaking up there.

    This morning, buoy is 4.8@12.

Anyway, time to get some fresh snow. And plenty of rain.

Secret spot somewhere south of the Equator. Double overhead on most sets, triple on the bombs. Ledgy as hell...

    Best surf in years.

Swell is not hitting Newport. That is odd, as we usually pick up at least some of WNW, but this one is not working for whatever reason. If I can get out early enough I might go down to Trestles and catch Uppers/Barbedwires, which seems to be getting it more, or maybe Huntington which is overhead.

There has been pretty consistent swell in Orange County the last few days, or it looked like it on the cameras. It is supposed to be good this weekend. I will be in Mammoth but hopefully some of the rest of you guys will get some. Good luck to all.
