Good weekend. Toured about 8 miles and 4500 feet on three faces, then surfed well overhead glassy point break in 74 degree weather. Not bad for March. Drink up plenty Piggity, it is BBQ weather after all.

sat am here was kinda meh. sat pm was just about perfect as the swell had started to really hit and the winds went straight offshore after the unusual (for march) mid day onshores. sunday am was head high plus and clean. surfed for two hours and then the august late morning onshores came up again. and today was the true sleeper. york wasn't showing much this am, but i kept an eye on the buoy and winds and decided to head ogt way 2 hours before low. score

just me and one other guy traded off perfect clean zippy waist/stomach with chest high sets. perfect long ripping short board waves.

no other surfers even drove down the hill to look at it. unreal!

my better half snapped this shot on my last wave this am. terrible surf shot, altho i did make it around that next section to a lovely open face, but it captures the winter wonderland world that is zero crowds maine winter surfing.

Winter has barely showed its head in these parts. We are back in autumn wonder land. 70F air. Long period well overhead surf. Sure, we have crowds to deal with, but I don't mind sharing 200+ yards of point with three other folks. Got three nice ones while the kiddo was in school yesterday. With mom out o town until Monday that was my only window to surf. So we jumped in the car and drove to the snow. Hitting up the perfect corn cycle that is happening right now. I hear Bunny is softening up around 9:30

    3 people on 200+? WOW!!!

HB should be shoulder high this weekend. Good enough to get in the water with lots of my closest friends. I wish NB got a bit more of this swell, as it is waist high. You know it sucks when the west nb surf cam shows no one out!

Mammoth was fun last weekend. Will be going up next weekend to get wintery snow off the top.

Or in our case, it doesn't suck, it's just that folks think it does when they see no one out. Happens at ogt, one of south coast maine's most popular breaks. Monday was one of those days with sunshine, great surf and just 2 of us out.....just out of the cams view

Keep telling yourself that. [wink emoticon].

Jtran, the point I've been surfin sucks. The wave is just no good and not even worth the 100m walk to the cliffs to check it out. Mushy, backing off, no good. At least that is what I am told by those who don't surf it and don't even look at it. Good thing. Cause many days they are right, but when the swell ad tide are right the place can get into the decent to good range with a few excellent days thrown it. Regardless, when you have short one hour surf windows like I do mid winter it is the place to go because you are never fighting a crowd.

Btw, my little chicken crushed the terrain park.

The next point north, the good one, looked real fun tonight. Chilled on the beach with junior and got a few pics. It will take a month, but I'll post those up. The inside tube section was working.

Got my new board in a few weeks ago:

Knee and family obligations kept me from surfing as much as I would like to but I managed to get out there a few times anyway! First few sessions I ate it A LOT. Coming from a 7'10" NSP this thing feels like a sexy Ferarri! Super fast and turny. Now I'm starting to get the hang of it and make about 70% of my pop ups, if not more.

Last session was this morning, before work in mushy, junk waves. Still though, any dawn patrol session beats the normal routine...
Air temps are starting to get around 10dgr C, water temps a little lower.

Again the shitty point break delivered. I split when it got crowded. Must of been right people out if you counted the folks on the beach. I prefer a count of three.

OTOH it was actually pretty shitty on Tuesday. Should have gone to the good spot that day.

surfed my first time in OB monday night (got our keys on Sunday). Just walked down the street to the first break that looked good. No idea what it was called. I was talking to a guy in the lineup (one of only two others) and he said it was called "the best break in San Diego". I'll go with that for now

Breaking left on the more southerly swell, fairly consistent, lined up sets, about shoulder/head high. Fast, powerful waves. Really felt different surfing in OB with the more open swell window than the wrap around winter swells in Cbad. Super fun.

Now if only these spring NW winds would calm down..

Really fun afternoon at lowers today. Escaping the heat of the desert, I made my now annual pilgrimage to trestles. Hit uppers early. It was fine. Ha no idea how much more fun lowers is. Got to go there again. Walk and crowd were really not that bad. Gettin it alone would be even better.

Now that we're settled in at our new spot in OB been getting out much more often than the past 2ish months. Conditions since Friday have been really nice. Consistent shoulder high around here. Paddled out at a spot down the cliffs last evening, a nice lined up right with only two other guys. Tide became a bit high and backwash was making the take offs super weird, but overall a real fun session.

Summer weather and winter water right now
