29-31st surfed down at Cerritos in BCS. 73 degree water, but 29 and 30 had super crowds. swimmers inside, learners outside of them, shortboarders trying to make 6-7 foot beach break close outs, then a handful of other guys outside on the point. Had some 80s (literally) board that was 7'6", glassed on fins..kinda seemed like a mini gun. NOT good for the conditions, and I got worked.

31st went out with a friend who lives down there on his 6'0" x 20 x 2.25...so much better. Had some really fun rides on the point before it was time to head back to the airport.

Got out here yesterday midday. Waist high, but really fun, and just me and my buddy on the peak.

Now chasing the snow north to UT for the next couple days. Planned it well with our surf flattening out in north county

Of course his ip# is in the states. That is where I am. He is not real, although he may think he is. He is just a lame figment I my twisted imagination. So sad really. Poor fish belly. No wonder he is so angry,,,,, he only lives inside my head,,,,, sure enough he thinks he is half way around the world,,,,, and even in my minds eye, he is still surfing knee high slop,,,,, poor guy thinks it is overhead.

N county is going flat? Shit, still quite big this morning up here. Alas, I'm shussing bumps.

I can see that. Our swell is dropping and clocking N. Still should be fun aroun here through the start of the week. A few small things on te charts, but nothing like the last two weeks. Bay Area may have been the best location for a surf trip during that period. OH to DOH plus with clean conditions. If you like you fun a bit smaller you could just go deeper into town. I heard NBB broke a few days knee to waist high with occasional shoulder high sets. Perfect for a rog board. Oh yeah, that wave is kind of like the S Africa points, just not as sharky. More barrels forever sort of thing. Can't figure out why I'd ever want to live here.

Good morning kinda cold. Minus one degree f with head high and plus sets. Clean. York was breaking well and not another soul had any interest in surfing this am

The lefts were especially nicely walled up. Fun turns.

Things are looking decent for the coming days.

What are you wearin for a suit in those temps? My coldest days were about 15 air/ 44 water. And that was chilly. Headed back to the coast now after logging 60k plus of very. At least I have my ski legs now. Just need snow.

the basic 5/4 xcel infinity with 7mm oneill heat booties and 7mm xcel mitts. -1 air temp 43/44 water today water felt balmy due to cold air temp and surf was solid enough where duck diving was frequent enough to keep the face warm.

touring on Washington in the am with lift served in the afternoon. Tuesday is showing potential fun surf. may even fit a Monday am ogt sesh in.

    how was the skiing?

That is some serious rubber on the hands.

Snow was not epic, but fun enough. Piste and bumps. AM bunny runs with the youth. Mid day steep piste and afternoon edge-able bumps. I really enjoyed myself despite missing some bombing surf.

We desperately need snow as tours right now would require a lot of over earth walking. Not really into the slog for a few chalky turns now that I have my kiddo in the picture.

About to head out to grab a few waves. Thinking I'll find some chest/head surf with luck. Much smaller than last week, but still should be fun.

well unfortunately oneill decided to pull the plug on the best winter mitt evar, the heat 5mm mitt. now you can only get 5mm trigger mitts which just don't cut it. epic fail on oneill's part. the 7's are fine tho I guess.

entertaining skiing on and off piste today. got some good skinning and lift served in. like yours, not epic, but a beautiful day spent sticking my feet in good quiet snow with gorgeous weather.

Dude you just don't get it. It does not matter where you are within my imagination. Your IP address is showing as Cali, cause I'm in Cali. You don't actually exist. Even if you are really in Sri, you are in the Sri within my mind. And I'm here in Cali. So when you "type", I type in Cali. Damn, your slow. But what can I expect from a figment. Carry on enjoying your not real life in your not real world thinking you are clued in more then others. Fuck, I really wish you were not a part of my mind you dumb fuck. But what can I do?

To the rest of you, I apologize. I will seek therapy to regulate lame fish to the meter regions of my mind. He keeps on interrupting and no one is to blame but myself.

so I was playing around on my buddy's surfline premium account last night, and saw that there's a swell that will peak Sunday/Monday 1/19-20. We're gonna be in Baja that weekend so I particularly remember triple overheard in north Baja Monday on the forecast, and I think maybe 10-12 ish? in SD.

Anyway, that was the first time I'd really looked beyond 5 days on a surf forecast. How reliable is the long term when forecasting waves? I'd imagine it's similar to forecasting snowfall amounts a week + before a storm? Either way, sounds like it's going to get big again soon.

Anything over a week out I take with a grain of salt. And really only seriously consider it getting accurate 3 days out. At least up here.

Crazy winds blowing the house around tonight. Supposed to maching tomorrow. Hopefully the winds calm down.

^^^So I am not crazy? Or am I? And I think I am more useless than retarded thank you. Or maybe the other way around. Most definitely it is not equal. And why would I bother doing any searching? My opinions are facts.

jtran, I count them when the swell is actually in the water. That is about 10 days out in summer, and 3-6 days out in winter.

    Short answer, no.

Looks like we will have some small, background west mid period still, but that will be barely noticeable. The bigger stuff looks pretty steeply angled north, so even though there will be a jumble of mid sized swell up the coast and at OB, making for maybe a good challenge, town will likely be shoulder to head, well filtered and fairly mellow.

What time of day are you surfing? High morning tide about 5.5' at first light, dropping to a zero tide around 2PM. Slowly filling back in to a 4' tide around 9PM. Should be good for town from 9AM on. What kind of surf are you looking for? If you prefer something with a little more meat, touch more mess, and way fewer folks, be sure to let me know. I'll be surfing sunrise near davenport, as I need to head over the hill around 9AM. Afternoon could be good up north depending on how much east develops in the wind.

All that said, these swells are not even in the water yet. Will have to wait until Friday night to get a gauge on size for Sunday.

Thanks for the education. I'll be in SC in the early afternoon Saturday and around for a couple days. Have to coordinate with the family but would love some local input to uncrowded sessions...

Monday morning could be fun. Swell dropping and winds shifting back off shore. I imagine Tuesday will be as well. Today was under head high in town, head high west of town and overhead up north. Gonna try to get in an early morning session tomorrow, then Sunday afternoon, and again Monday morning, if you wanna join. Depending on size/conditions, I will likely head north, and will be looking for smaller crowds. My favorite spots can require scaling down a cliff or a good beating by the lip if you are caught off guard. If that sounds appealing, you are welcome to join. If not, you can still PM me for input. Where are you staying?
