yeah, it's definitely a lot of light. i run the xpg's only on the uphill, and everything full blast on the dh. now the snow needs to hold off for a bit, dare i say it.
Just got back from a night ride. So much fun. Magic shine 900 on the helmet, and one on the bars, there is so much light I don't have a desire for more.
ordered the combo pack (900+1400)...I'm actually a little worried that much light will take some of the fun out of it. Maybe I'll sell one to a friend.
I was just thinking last night how ridiculously fun that will be
You can always run on 'low' which would also extend battery life. There's something to be said for riding in the dark but it's also beyond awesome to rip downhill at or near daylight speeds with both lights on. Plus you can split em up and have a loaner light with which to convince your friends to get their own setups.
there really is not such thing as too much light.
In fact with enough light you can see better at night than during the day due to how much contrast you can get.
Got a MagicShine 900 for my birthday and have been loving it. Usually start in day time, end at night. Gotta say night rides, especially solo ones, can be down right spooky. Especially with that much light, I never got this many shadows with my old halogen light. It takes some getting used to.
love it around town too, cars pay attention when you've got a brighter headlight than they do.
From a science stand point that obviously makes sense, but it also explains why my one ridiculously bright light casts way more shadows than my fairly dim double light set up I used to use.
ran to the store on the bike tonight, loved it. Normally I've got asshole drivers getting too close, honking, pulling right in front of me, etc. Not at night, fuckers keep their distance and appear to show some respect.
I think people might be a little scared of anyone riding at night, pretty much everyone I've sat next to at a light peels out and GTFO as soon as the light changes, much more so than I've seen at any other time. Must be afraid of eithergetting car jacked or beat to the next light.
yea having two is great for loaning to a friend in need. give them the one on the bars for more light, but the headlamp 900 is still ample.
FYI: I found a great dog light at Cabelas, called Spotlight, for $8. Take the dogs with you!

Uh-Oh....
"GeoManGear has temporarily discontinued sales of Magicshine lightsets due to our concerns regarding the quality of Magicshine's lithium-ion battery packs. We have determined that the Magicshine battery packs do not meet GeoManGear's high expectations regarding product performance and quality. We are working with the manufacturer to quickly resolve these issues and will begin selling Magicshine products again after we have obtained a high-quality battery pack for our customers."
Lots of speculation and conspiracy theories here:

I think I will try my hand at making my own battery.

That is bad. My riding buddy's lights just crapped out last night, I was just about to send him the link GeoMan.
Hopefully what they say is true, and will be back to is soon. In the meantime, anyone here have experience with anything close to the price/performance of those lights?
I love night riding.
Bike bling has some decent deals on lights right now:

The magicshine series seems pretty legit. Wishing they were still for sale...
I must have gotten one of the last MS900's, hopefully I'll get it by Monday's ride.
Chainlove has had a few Niterider HID's and Seca 900's lately. Keep an eye out.

Do you still live in Marquette? I always wanted to do the yellow trail @south trails at night, but have only done the city bike path... lame, I know.
I night ride quite a bit, magicshine 900 setup. Mostly in my town, on side roads, but probably 4 miles of dirt for every 10 total miles. So, anyone down with safety breaks in the woods at night? I don't get paranoid in nature so I enjoy them, JMO.
Yep, still in Marquette. I have never done yellow at night (or very much during the day really.. Too much climbing)
My favorite night loop is... well they are all sweet, we did a nice one the other night, up black from the RR bridge, down red to mossy, then reverse blue down scary trail to the prison. It was a really sweet ride with a lot of nice descents.
I like to ride north trails at night too, bareback, hogs back..
Found the Magic Shine on ebay from a legit seller. Trigger = pulled.
