I just saw Icarus. Worth a watch if you have not seen it.

The unconnected vignette structure reminded me of tales from the crypt, particularly during the "meal ticket" chapter.
Very interesting movie. I thought a few of the vignettes were really good. A few seemed to stretch a bit to make them so fatalistic.

Not Netflix, but Kanopy.com (which you might get for free if you live in a locality with a well funded library system): I just watched Wings, which happens to be the first movie ever to win a Best Picture Oscar. It's really fun, for something made in 1927. Good story (if a bit slow by modern standards), and impressive aerial scenes of WW1 dogfights (all done without computer effects, ha ha). In fact, scenes from Wings were studied by the animation techs who made Star Wars. Some brutally realistic ground battle scenes as well; as action goes, this film was pretty far ahead of its time. And Clara Bow is cute as a button in this.

Oh, and more generally, do check out Kanopy (if your library system allows); for movies, they seem to have more and better than Netflix these days. Also HooplaDigital.com, same deal, but not as much good stuff (some gems though); they're streaming Aspen Extreme, I noticed.

    About half way through.

    Pretty damn good.

Kind of like Episodes meets Flaked if Flaked was an old guy instead of an alcoholic, and a healthy dose of The Odd Couple. And some Grace and Frankie, but much better.

Just finished Season 3 of The Last Kingdom.

....Great show, if you are into 9th century England battles, chicanery, pillaging, plundering and heroism

Thanks, how gory/violent is it? I know you said Plundering and pillaging but trying to decide if this is a watch with the wife or on own thing and she does not dig the violence. Like I LOVE Ozark and she couldnt take it even though she loves both lead acrtors

Didn't see Ozark, but I watched TLK with my wife. There are certainly many graphic battles and throat slashing, but it is mostly not too graphic. The Norwegian vikings, and the 9th cent. Brits., certainly do battle, it is not as gruesome, explicit or graphic as early GoT. I think of TLK as a cross between GoT and Monty Python, with a splash of Ray Donovan (Uthred is a fixer).

    WARNING: This show is addictive.

I would recommend Ozark if not covered before. I blew through first season in a few nights, second is a bit slower but also good.

Trying to get in shape mentally for my ski season that begins less than a week from now, I just watched the MST3K incarnation of Avalanche, with Rock Hudson and Mia Farrow, on Netflix. The extended avalanche in the flick was pretty hilarious, and I swear I spotted actual styrofoam noodles in some of the (indoors) slide debris.

Damn, I was just trying to find that but you can't get it on Hulu, Netflix, or even Prime.. only 6 episodes though - more of a mini series? heard real good reviews of it

also not on Netflix, but excellent, I just posted the trailer in the Prime thread: Escape at Dannemora, on Showtime (you get it if you have Prime I )

Finally worked my way through both seasons of Ozark. It held my attention, and if/when the 3rd season comes out, I'm sure I'll watch it.

But the show's requirement of a suspension of disbelief really ramps up in the second season. I'm not usually one to get hung up on how blatantly unrealistic tv and movies are, but ozark was really pushing the limits of that. And the characters' reaction to various heinous situations seemed to be a bit all over the map. One second they'd be relatively indifferent and calm, the next second they'd be falling to pieces.

Ultimately, the show feels like it's trying really, really hard to hit the same marks that breaking bad did, but thus far, ozark comes up significantly short of that.

    Hulu - Killing Eve.

Excellent BBC British spy drama in a Deighton/le Carré style.

I liked the first season of Ozark. Season 2 aint doing it for me. It's getting cartoonish.
