    It Hurts When I...

...skin for long periods of time. Does anyone else feel pain/weak muscles in their hip flexer area after a long or even short day of skinning. I feel like the muscles right where my thigh connects to my hips aren't used unless I'm skinning which makes them vunerable to overuse. I know there are a lot of you here that skin and wondered if you did anything to build up those muscles at all.

I had this for the first 3 or 4 times I used at bindings, but it went away... I'm guessing it will probably be back again this year though because my preseason excersize consisted mainly drinking and eating potato chips...

Things like hanging leg raises are good for building up your hip flexors. Seeing as how I won't be skiing for a while, it's hard to say how much good the exercise has been for skinning, but it can't hurt.

I had exactly that problem when I first started skinning for turns. Three things helped. More time skinning (more even stride and fitter), stretching, and the big one for me was different pants.

When skinning wearing my old gore-tex pants my hip flexor hated me. I later switched to softshell pants and the problem went away. For some reason I ended up skinning in the goretex again and the problem came back. I think that it was caused by the pants dragging at my leg as I skin.
