Hello, I'm heading up from Durango, CO with my lady friend (who will not be creeking with me) and I'll be there for a few days around July 13 or so and would love to get in a day or two of quality creeking! Kootenia Creek, maybe Bear Creek? I bet there's other good stuff, class 4-5, that I don't have any idea about too. My source has been The River Gypsies Guide.
Anyone around with the time and inclination to get out for a 1/2 day-2 days of creeking? Is there a good place in town to meet a crew of paddlers?
It's gonna be tough to find water by then. You might still be able to squeak down Kootenai but things are winding down quick around here. It is, however, raining right now and if it keeps up you never know. This has been a strange spring/summer.
Stuff over by Bozeman and the Beartooths will probably still be going strong, but that's kind of a haul from Missoula.
Post here again a couple days before you come and we'll let you know if anything's running, whether or not it's in Leland's book. Do you know a tall guy named Wes who moved to Great Falls from Durango recently?
Thanks for the beta. We are actually going to Bozeman too and may try to spend more time there I guess. I'll have to do some research on runs there. Any recomendations?
I do know a Wes DeWitt, not well, but he's tall and a fire fighter I believe. He applied to work for the company I work for, but never did. Is he a friend of yours? Seemed like a nice guy.
We're just checking out Montana because I've never been and we have both considered moving up there. Grad shcool for me (maybe) and a teaching jb for my lady. We'll see how we like it but I hear lot's of great things about it!
Hey, I'll be passing through Billings and then Bozeman today, looking to hit Big T on the way. Are you around? I'll post another post to see who else might be interested as well. We plan to be around Bozeman for a day or three and then head west to Missoula.
Give a ring if you have time to go boating or know anyone else that may. Also, know anyone trying to sell kayak stackers for a subie rack? We just bought a new (to us) Forester and I snugged down the creeker only to find a huge oil can in the bottom 600 miles later.
