    Colorado - Saturday 11/20

I have a work trip to Colorado Springs on 11/19, and am going to get some skiing in on 11/20. Last year I had the same trip and hit Wolf Creek, which had great conditions. However, this year I don't feel like the drive.

Currently, conditions suck at most CO resorts, but what might be the best bet given the conditions:
    • Vail (opens 11/19)
    • Copper
    • Loveland

It will all be good for some early season turns., and my new Volkl Superspeeds should get a workout.

Any maggots interested in meeting up?

Closer places will be opening that weekend, but for any decent terrain to open up, you'll need alot of snow between now and then.

You could open those volkl's up on groomers at copper or keystone or something, that'll at least be fun. Not sure what kind of terrain vail/bc will open, things look grim up there now.

Vail & Beaver Creek won't be open this weekend, they're holding off until Nov. 19. Copper is reporting 10" new this morning so they might have more terrain open this weekend.

Not much happening in Vail. We got about 4 inches last night and thats it. The only snowmaking going on now is on Born Free. As mentioned earlier Copper gor 10 inches in three hours.

Cool - I will probably decide on my ski destination tomorrow as I will be with a non-maggot co-worker.

If there's a maggot contingent going down there that'll be skiing on Sunday (the 21st) and if the knife ridge is open and there's new snow, I might like to go...

The only day I can ski is Saturday 11/20.

It is looking more like I will hit Copper, and hope for the best.

The drive back to Denver after skiing Saturday at Wolf Creek is quite long, and if it Blizzards like it did on me last year the drive will outright suck.

    Bump.

Got a hotel room in Dillon, and will hit the resort with the "best" conditions.

With the limited terrain at most of the resorts - thinking Copper or A-Basin. How are things at A-Basin right now bearable- anyone? Bueller?

Man, I wish we had an office in Utah rather than Colorado Springs.

    Wahhhhh!!!!

You're right. It's terrible. No snow, just rumors. I skied mud this weekend. Oh, yeah, and rocks...Had to cut through trees to find a foot and a half of powder. Damn how I hate that! Yep, the Springs sucks , too! What a bunch of losers we are staring at the mountains, driving hours to ski in crap snow....The lines are long, the runs are all blues, the gaper "snowmen" are piling up in front of lift lines and running over our ski tips while complaining about the crappy conditions, the expensive food, the altitude, the attitude, you name it! It's all good because at least I'm out there skiing!

Sorry, didn't mean to rile you up. I will be more than happy to be skiing in wonderful Colorado. Plus I get to test out my new Superspeeds.

    Wink

I'm not riled, just giving you a hard time! Wreckenridge was pretty good for mid-November last Sat and Sun and opening more by the weekend if they can. Skistoned and Flail don't seem to want to let anyone know what's open or will be opening this weekend. A-Basin is great even without great snow due to the laid back attitude, lack of beginner runs, etc.....Beaver Creek is opening as well. Winter Park opens 11/17. A lot of times, A-Basin and Loveland will get more snow than the other Central Mt. resorts due to where they sit on the divide (hasn't happened much so far, though!). I don't ever ski Copper.

Again, just happy to be skiing after 5 months!

Think snow!!! We may be getting some Wed - Sun.

You may want to reconsider. Compared to Breck and Keystone ... well, there IS no comparison. I understand it's not on the VA pass, but it's certainly worthy of a few sheckels.

EDIT: McWop - git some! Looks like the Balto/Wash maggots are steppin' up!

    Question Copper skiing

I've actually tried to go several times, but everyone else bailed out so I went to Vail instead. What do YOU like best about Copper? All I hear from friends is nice, family atmosphere, beginner runs at the base, easy access, groomed runs, etc. We did hang out at the village(?) in the summer a few times and it really rocks!!!! Ya know, coming from SoCal, everything anywhere else has seemed GREAT - I love that I'm getting so spoiled out here! I think I might try the Copper/ Winter Park pass next year ( I LOVED mary jane!).

Yep, I'm getting a little excited with all these resorts due to open this weekend. Too bad I can't ski Saturday!

Tucker Mountain it's self makes skiing at Copper a much better experience then Breck or Keystone. Plus unlike Breck you do not have to ski blues and greens to get back to the lift. At Copper most of the green and blue runs are on the west side of the front face. The Blacks are to the east side on the front and in the back bowls so you don't have to deal with skiing through the gapers to get back to the lift.

If I remember correctly, Copper typically gets the most "avg." snowfall in Summit County, minus A-basin..?
    anyway, those are just averages..

btw, we stopped off at Copper last week (not to ski, it was 5 p.m.) after the reported 10" fell..I hope they mesaured that at Mid-mtn, cuz it looked more like about 3" at the base...

Copper's the best resort in Summit County outside of A-basin.
