    Alta today....now with pics

So I met up with JayFrizzo and Telephil at 10am. We were pretty stoked to be up there with 18 on the ground and more falling. For our first run we hiked up the cattrack under High Rustler. We get to were we planned to drop in and go for it. I was surprised to feel the bottom but stoked for the face shot . It ended up being a pretty short run with some bushwacking invloved. Frizzo ate shit at the bottom which was entertaining. We had planned on doing the same thing again but instead decided to hike up higher. Just after we passed where we had been we ran into a guy on nearly new G4s about to drop in on a sweet looking line. He told us about his heli adventures before dropping in . So he dropped in hit bottom and ate shit face first. It was a slow as hell hike thanks to me. Friz and I realized that the harder it got the greater Phil's advantage on tele gear and skins while we bootpacked it up. As we hiked the snow began to come down a little harder. We got up to just below and between Collins and Wildcat and decided that it was time to ski down. The snow was better up there only a little deeper but I didn't find the bottom. We proceeded down to where we took our first run and Jay and I dropped in and immediately the snow shot into my face . This time I was a little to skier's right of my first run and it was the best few turns of the day. Frizzo and I were in heaven. We proceeded down to the lot and left. It was a kickass day. edit: pics now, the falling snow doesn't show up well on the pics.

I was up there today also. Skied the same run you refered to from the cattracks under HR. FUCKING SICK SNOW. Talked to some pinners who came from the top of Germ. The said it was very very deep, but the snow is so light that you go straight to the ground anyway. Tons of people were up there hiking around, I will be back up there tomorrow. If you don't go you are missing out. Get up there.

I'll be up tomorrow as well, except I'm an Alta virgin. Does anyone want to hook up and give me and 2 of my friends a crash course in where to hike?

A good time was had by all. Telephil is a skintrackin' mofo, and I'd just like to say that the youngest of us, UTDave, did a good job of brining up the rear . (Though he was consistently the first down, the li'l whippersnapper.)

So nice to see snow, and the contrast with warm Wednesday was amazing. It was like, BAM, winter.

Looking forward to at least 99 more days like it.

Yeah, I'll be there at 10. Is there an obvious place we can meet? As I said, I'm a complete Alta newbie. I'll be wearing a red SMS jacket, white SMS pants, a Giro 9 Helmet and A-frames and answer to "Got change for a nickel?" or Rob. I'll PM you with my cell phone number.

Nice report Dave, can't get the pics to pull up, but working on it. Definitely a good time. Had a hard time getting my knee to figure out what to do after the injury last winter, but it started to come together by the end. I'm gettin up this week also.

Don't be too jealous Buzz...wait till the reports of buried ankle-breakers start coming in and peeps' seasons are over before they even begin.

Baldy shoulder last October 02 was fun but too scary for the rewards...

Meh. They had a combo deal. It was cheap.

On another note, today was great. Got there about 9:45 and started hiking, got up in between Collins and Wildcat at the top of the first ridge and got to make some turns. Hit bottom a time or two, but it was definetly worth it. Hiked again, a lot shorter this time and just dropped off of the cat track. Didn't find bottom at all, that time. Hit the rail at the Goldminer's lot a time or two and came home beacuse my lame-ass friends were too tired to stay and they had the car keys. All in all a good (though short)day, and my stoke is through the roof. The hiking "up" idea worked very well.

Hopped, sorry I did not call. I just checked the board and saw your message.

Red jacket, white pants, and two lame friends, huh. Do you have a pair of 1080's?

We hiked up to the base of Baldy and had great ski down. Only found the base once. The mountain needs another storm like the one we just had to bury all the snow snakes that are just lurking, waiting to grab your lower leg and break it.

That I do. See me at the bottom waiting around? Or on the way up with my lag-ass buddies? They decided that they wanted to board for the first time there- so it took them 2 and a half hours to get down what took me 10 minutes or so. There were definitely some snow snakes there-I got caught on one while I was clicking in-I'll wait for another storm before I head back up(if it happens before they open.)
