I am shopping for a new PFD. I have a choice between an astral willis and a stohlquist brik. I can get the astral for $65 or the stohlquist for $80. I'm leaning towards the astral because it is less expensive. Does anybody have any experience or opinions about either of these pfds?
Try both on, but the Willis would be my vote. The Brik might be a better fit if you have a super long torso, but the Willis is nice because it has the independent (techtonic) front panels.
I've had a Willis for a few years and really like it, It replaced a Lotus Sherman and is much more comfortable. I have a Stolquist Brik? in with my loaner gear that I don't think I've ever worn, Go with the Willis.
The only thing I dislike about the Willis is the lash tab placement on the center of the chest, I put my knife on my shoulder and like it much better.
Go for the Willis! I got one as a promo when my lady friend and I paddled around Lake Superior two summers ago and friggen love it! @ First I felt like the Monkeys in 2001 space something or other when they try to use the bone as a tool.
Well anyway, we basically lived in those things for like 80 days (she the Bella and I the Willis) You don't even know its there. Killer on the river too. Lotta folks are sporting them for a reason - they ROCK.
The pockets also hold a bit more than you'd think. Also Willis provides a bit more back protection than the BRIK. Stohlquist, you're a good company, but in this case my vote has been on the Astral plane.
