    The tactic:

Ask six to eight people to go.
    3-4 say they will.
In the end, one person finds the time.

    One is enough.

Get rid of all the stuff that involves rope and scaling sheer rock and ice faces, and I'd go

Those pics gave me some serious pucker factor. Yeesh.

Ask me and I promise to say I'll go and definitely not go.

    It's a numbers game.

how about the needle? i have thursday off, but am unsure about the conditions on the pfeiff. if it clear tomorrow i can take a look at the lines while i'm up there. pm me if you have some ideas about things to look for on the pfeifferhorn. coalpit seemed to have a lot of snow on it so i guess the horn will too.

btw, are you looking for nw or ne couloir?

Needle is fun, but sometimes just below the entrance there isn't much snow. I've skied Coalpit with good conditions when the Needle was suprisingly bony.

NW Couloir is the best line of the Pfeif. The NE looks like a piece. I wouldn't be suprised if the first 10-20 feet on the NW Couloir are a little bony too. Sometimes the 'Edge of the World' entrance works better. The first few turns are snow over smooth granite, hence the lack of snow. But the lower couloir is usually the best part, mainly because you relieved to be past the rappel.

By the way, the last four photos were taken during the second week of November in '98.
