fun show - good maggot showing...

I know I missed a bunch, but saw...

    Punani
    kellie
    Arty50
    Greydon Clark
    skier666 & the mrs.
    spats
    alkasquawlick
    sam & the mrs.
    Clack
    Geoff and friend

and I"m pretty sure a bunch of others that I didn't know were maggots.

Show was good, despite some sound difficulties. Nice footage of Victoria and Jeremy Jones - glad to see snowboarders get some good face time in the flick. Cool to see such an impressive crew of athletes show up- Sage, Jeremy, Meg, Will Burks, Chris Collins, Skogen Sprang, Shroder Baker. Would have loved it if they set aside 20 minutes or so to do a Q & A with them after the movie - but still so glad they were there.

Definitely got me excited to finally get up there. Fun to meet some of you I hadn't met yet. Mrs. 666 and Mrs. Sam and great. Arty50 and I struck an historic accord where he offered to drag me around some of the Kwood traverses in exchange for cookies and beer.

No warm Heineken for me. Pre-bought ticket saturday at Crissy Field Sports Basement after stellar large smooth OB session. No need to get to PoFA too early to get a ticket. Casual departure from east bay, cool, windless super clear nite, easy traffic Montana plates on truck at toll booth, over bay bridge real views all around, 7:58 B of A clock is running way fast tonite. Embarcadero, Marina, PoFA, loop block that appreciated $100K today and squeeze into tiny parking spot. Oops, empty lobby, couple without tickets leaving, clock at bar: 8:20 opening segment was it good? 1000 seats, full house! Maggots?, where??, schwag toss in 30 seconds! Up, up, up seat at the top. Dood in beanie two seats over, "...no I'm not in it but my girlfriend is..." End of raffle, lights down, long brown hair woman in puffy sqeezes by to sit next to Dood, Ms. Jah-loose, eh, maybe? Killer segment by guy in suit giving away stuff a moment ago. Shredding and slaying rad rad rad bad ass skills and style on both sides of the lense thanks again TGR for revelation and inspiration looks like fun must find deep crystaline dreams and tunnel thru instead of usual vanilla slurpee way before pros reassemble at PoFA. But folks not stomping landings and Nissan!, umm I mean Jeep! Jeep! Jeep? Peek at ticket stub. Funny, enthusiastic Dood and brown long hair yabba yabba, "...he (the primate) was soooo cute..." yabba yabba, yabba thru The End/Beggining. Good times. Meet folks I missed sooner or later. Warmish light rain no wind this am, wax on top or wax on the bottom east or back west?

good flick - got there just before show-time, luckily friends saved me a seat down close. walked into the "VIP" area (sorry TGR!) like I belonged, grabbed 2 cold Amstels, shoved them up the sleeves of my jacket and walked back in to my seat where i proceeded to enjoy them during the movie.

sage's segment was cool, as was collins'. like jj's closing segment where they long-lined him from the heli to the top of that pencil thin coolie - that was sick.

movie over and off to liverpool lil's. had a beer at the bar with nobis there - that was cool. home and in bed at 11:45....dreams of powder and perfect lines filled my head......

Well...I know this is a TGR site, but here's my rant:

I didn't like the movie at all....sure they had some good lines and steep pow in there, but it holds nothing to make me watch it again. The only entertaining part for me was the Russia segment. Probably because it was really interesting to see the mafia hold them back, watch them ski some obsure peaks where few people ever have or will go....but the ski footage from there wasn't terribly exciting. However, I am talking as a ski/action sport film snob. This movie had more of a Warren Miller feel with inclusion of Stowe Vt., and obsure historical locations. I like movies that really pump you up to get out there....fast music, no overdoing the slow-mo, and fast technical skiing. In this movie they have skiers skiing down insane sick shit, but they have some acoustic guitar music behind it....imo, the music means everything.

....and the landing fakie in powder was a little ridiculous. It's cool as hell, but 99% of all the switch landings cut off one second after they land...and its in slow-mo. One of the coolest scenes in the film was when Mark Belliveau pulled of a high speed 180 off a little cliff and kept riding switch, now that was impressive.

And in no way do I mean this in a I'm so rad fashion, just my honest opinion

yeah, i am over the landing switch in the BC thing....and, i have to say, the "Yearbook" soundtrack was much better.

but, with that being said, still dug it. it is a ski flick after all, and for what it is, etc, its good. but i was discussing w/friends afterwards, and we were of the general feeling/agreement that it seems like they (TGR, MSP) are simply running out of "new" things to shoot....its all been done. which is cool, would like to see both go more back to their roots on the next flicks...less jibbing (please, no more Tanner Hall...please...), less switch shit in the BC and more soulful pow skiing and AK stuff, etc.

the ski base jummpig thing is/was done better in Yearkbook w/SM...I didn't think that TGR also needed to include it....

I wonder which local frat party that emcee came from? What a tool!

The movie wasn't TGR's best work in my opinion. I can't even pinpoint it, just felt weird in some parts. The chute Jones did at the end was unreal though. As always the skiing was impressive, but I'm not sure I'll make the $30 dvd investment on this one.

I agree with the general sentiment here. Not TGR's best showing. JJ stole the show, Beliveau's seg was cool although he didn't land anything facing downhill. Seemed like he was trying to complete a seg without landing anything the way I land everything.

I dug some of the slower tunes but they didn't seem to fit the skiing in the segments.

I don't know much about much but I assume that Roner was pulled in because he's the only guy in Wyoming that will base jump on skis.

I still can't take Johnny Law seriously. He's a beast on skis but I can't get the absurdly lame quotes from his website out of my head.

How about the dude that won the Jackson lift tickets and then hugged Oster and hung on stage for a minute or 2. I'm sure he was laying down his best rap but still, you've gotta appreciate gusto like that.

Micah Black is still a bad dood.

The MC? Somebody must've lost a bet...

Best segment of the film was VJ's by far and away. Roner's segment was derivative. I personally liked Marc Andre's segment. I don't think Jamie Pierre landed anything in the entire flick. They glazed over their trips to Bulgaria and Russia much too quickly.

Exotic destinations- Russia/Bulgaria instead of the usual AK porn
DUDE! The helmetcam footie was SWEET!
ShREDder segment and finally meeting her
A cordial invitation from Nobi telling me to hit the LA show so we can party with Tommy Lee and some porn stars
No dumbass comments from Mr Pierre
    Less jibbing.

    http://tetongravity.com/ubb/icons/icon13.gif
Warren Miller-esque feel, with the Cheep spancership
Stowe segment was so gay it made me want to get up, walk to the Castro and purchase a buttplug.
    Dumbass comments from dumbass MC
Venue: Marina blows. Have it at the Mission next time for more local flair. Me, Greydon and Sam witnessed a Rodney King style beatdown on the way home. That was cool.
Music shitty in parts. Less pseudo-rap, more old school rock like High Life
[smacktalk] I don't need to see a snowboarder sideslip all the way down. We get enough of that at Kirkweed thank you very much )

Its nice to know I'm not some random solo jackass that thought about all of this while watching it. I really think they should take 2 years to make a movie, and make it really really good...instead of spitting out the same movie every year with a different opening sequence.

I tried to yell to get people motivated....it seemed like 99.98% of the crowd refused to show emotion. Even the people who won skis and crap just walked up and grabbed their freebie....

I felt like the ski base jumping scene was just added b/c MSP was doing it in their films. I didn't like it. Crazy as hell, but didn't like it. I have to say though, how about Roner coming inches from death? That was nutty.

The proliferation of BASE jump thing proves that only 3 1/2 guys in the ski “industry” have original thoughts running around in their heads. Jesus, Roner basically quoted McSlonkey verbatim when “explaining” why he BASE jumps with skis on. Then again, Tanner Hall pontificates one of the least original thought of this young century in Yearbook, “I’m taking tricks to the backcountry blah blah blah”.

My unofficial scorecard of this years ski movies:
    Yearbook: C
    Soul Purpose: B-
Stimulus: B+ (These guys are making ski movies for the DVD generation, 40 minutes of banger footage and two hours of “extras” for the Hesh Crew.)

Other random thoughts… dudes kicking off multiple hard slab avalanches in the same day—Mica Creek (TGR) and Pollards (MSP)—WTF? You’re rad, we desk jockeys enjoy watching what you’re doing, but is your life worth it? Jesus.

Sorry I missed it, sounds like a good show. Was recovering from a serious, puke up your esophagus, hangover yesterday.

At any rate, gotta agree that Stimulus was unreal. Absolutely the best powder segment I've ever seen and for the extras, right on, you can throw that on as great "background" material for a party, ect...

WM feel coincidence or deliberate/calculated. The folks of TGR have got to have contemplated by now past present future and everything and had some realizations, soul searching maybe. They have a WM business/life of sorts. The Jones grew up at Stowe, no?
