To EPIC pass or not to EPIC pass; that is the question

Yeah, yeah, I know....search function, wrong forum...blah, blah, blah.

I posted it here 'cause I figured it'd get more views, and undoubtedly more of the humorous responses this place is known for so, JONG away.

I'm planning on moving to Denver (or perhaps SuCo if I end up deciding to work at Copper for a friend from Tahoe) in December and I'm curious to know if the EPIC pass is the way to go? Seems like a sick deal on the surface, but what am I really getting here? Most of my connections in Denver have the EPIC pass, and seem pretty happy, but they're weekend warriors that really only know resort riding in CO.

School me on the riding in this part of CO. I've ridden Breck and Keystone in fair conditions but that was 10 years ago before got spoiled living/working in Tahoe, and by taking trips to ride places like Baker, Xtal, Stevens, Bridger, Targhee, etc.

What's the lowdown on Loveland? Winter Park? Copper? How do they compare to the EPIC pass resorts?

I know many might suggest not buying a pass at all that first year and just figuring out where I want a pass, but I don't think my financial resources would allow me to buy day passes for everyday that I'm hoping to be riding.

Its just too bad Telluride is so damn far away from Denver, 'cause if it were closer, this thread wouldn't be necessary.

    TIA.

    edit: Don't suggest Eldora.

Haha...I hope to hell you're talking about Tahoe and WA and not sarcastically referring to how rad MI is. And yeah, I know its not the most ideal location in the country from purely a riding perspective, but I know they're looking for teachers out there and I have a lot of friends from home living in Denver, so for those reasons it makes sense...snow/terrain wise...not so much. Thanks though.

edit: Hell, it beats Michigan. (<---sig worthy? )

good luck finding a place in summit in december *unless youve got hookups)

and you really have no reason to complain about a $450 multipass when lift tickets for regular people are $92

Thanks for the heads up. I'm fairly well connected out there, so hopefully finding a place won't be too hard. I have a place in Denver on lock, but I'm still debating whether to live there or up in the mtns.

Just get a Loveland pass like all the other queers here. It's like China bowl, only smaller and with a lot more white trash.

It depends on how far you want to drive and how many options you want. Loveland is the shortest/easiest drive from Denver, generally less crowded, and reasonably priced. epic pass is nice for having the most options. Copper/Winter Park falls somewhere between drive time and amount of terrain to choose from. Who you're going to ski with regularly and what pass they have will be a factor as well. Personally, I'd just get some touring gear and meet some backcountry friends.

Yeah, get some touring gear so you can be a self riteous prick and spew about how epic your one run was and how it was better than the 20 laps everyone else did in the resort. Especially when you'll be stuck meadowskippin' 3/4's of the season because of our super stable snowpack and copious amounts of snow.

I don't know, a choice of 5 mtns for $550 is pretty nice. You can always find something fun at one of them, especially if you have some backcountry experience. Even though Beaver Creek is a little drive, there's some really nice terrain there when it snows, and Vail aint that bad on a pow day. It's not like you're going to find terrain like Jackson anywhere inbounds in CO.

    Colorado is flat and welcome.

epic pass gives you some varied I70 choices. Loveland sucks, that is where I ride so stay the fuck away, seriously.

Copper is a shit show, but the east part of the mtn can be fun on a pow day and you can get some longer laps in.
    Winter Park is OK.

Epic pass is the best deal out here, get it and you will be a nice addition to all the other gapers.

Wow dude, you must be the best rider you know. Can I touch you?

I ended up getting the EPIC pass, guess that makes me a gaper. But don't worry I'm sure I'll be gaping my way down LL a few days next winter too. Be sure to say hi.

Skiing sucks in CO. Nothing to see here. Just move to Utah. I hear it snows there a bit.

you made a good choice. i get mine for 199, so I pick one up to help keep up my gaper status, and ride A basin late in the year as Loveland has to close early for moose migration.

    enjoy!

Really? I shouldn't take things so seriously on the interwebz? Oh, man, thanks for clearing that up. I feel so much better now. Perhaps you should take your own advice my friend.

If you really want the multipass, I 'd suggest the Colorado pass. Its unlimited a-bay, breck, and keystone, and you get 10 days at vail or beaver creek. Its $450. I wouldn't pay an extra $100 or whatever it is for unlimited Vail, the drive is rarely worth it IMO.

Regardless of which one you get, get a seasons pass. Day tixs are ridonkulous at all the super-pass/epic-pass resorts and you can easily make that ~$500 pass worth it.

Anybody know what the deadlines for the epic typically are? I can't seem to google my way to an answer.

And to the OP, why not get one? If you can't find a reason you want to ski a combined 7-8 days over >130 day season at any of those resorts while living in denver you are doing it wrong.

deadlines are not outwardly publicized for a reason, they want people to get all anxious that their lift crack might not be around come late fall.

early, really early fall i think.

they advertised that 599 was good til May 15th I think to start....then they typically extend it a couple of times then start adding 10 or 20 bucks with every "deadline" passed.
