I too just opened this thread, and I'm so happy that things are looking better.

My wife's best friend in the world died that way, leaving her husband, my good friend, with the newborn and a three- and a five-year old. Rough can not begin to describe how bad it was.

Thank the almighty, be it God, Allah, Jah, Manitou, whatever. I like to think the positive vibes of the collective helped.

    WOOHOO!!!!!!

That sounds so encouraging! So glad things are looking up for her, I'll still be hoping for the best though. My friend is doing much better too - she's at least home on bedrest now, (that is really killing her, she's the never stop doing stuff type) - but everyone is pitching in to help with the baby.

This thread has me seriously sketched out as my wife and I quickly (tomorrow...) approach our due date...
positive thoughts, Canuk, even though it seems like a few of us have some similar scary stories here, it's probably a lot less common than you think, and plenty of births go off without any problems. Best of luck to you both.

Glad to hear your friend is getting better. I'll still say a prayer that her recovery keeps improving.

skiguide - positive vibes to your friend. +++++++++++++++

I can't believe this, it seems more than a number of you have stories of loved ones passing on or having problems due to low post-birth blood pressure. This is very sad, I don't know what to say.

Positive thoughts to the recovering ladies!!

glad to hear things are looking so good, cololi.

This is not my area of expertise, but TTP is thrombocytopenic purpura. it is associated with pregnancy (as well as other conditions) but they don't know the cause. i guess what happens is the blood cells break down in the smaller vessels causing your platelets to form small clots. it usually affects the small vessels of the brain and kidneys, leading to stroke symptoms and renal failure. when it is treated, the survival rate is greater than 90%. It can recur (whether or not she gets pregnant again).

I will send some positive vibes hoping she makes a full recovery.
