    road rash

so long story short, i participated in a semi-annual uvm tradition and rode my bike naked around campus with about a thousand other students. tried to pass a friend in a full on sprint when he suddenly steered into me and we both went down. i'm currently covered in road rash down the entire left side of my body.

anyone got any tips for helping road rash to heal quickly? also have a couple nice, somewhat deep holes in my elbow and hip from where my body made first contact. pulled out a good sized pebble from my hip when i got back home, but luckily neither is bleeding so i'm not too worried about them. i'll get some pictures of the damage later, i won't be feeling good tomorrow.

Keep it clean and scrub out those holes good too.

i didn't get any pics, but i know some people in the crowd did. saw a handful of flashes go off in my general direction and i'm sure they got some pics of other people. it's comforting knowing that people who i don't know have pictures of me naked on a bike.

don't have any shots of the road rash yet, but here's a picture of the pebble i pulled out of my hip when i got back home.

keeping everything clean is at the top of my priorities at this point.

Plain ole antiseptic spray works well too. Get on from the office or school medicine cabinets you see around.

Wash carefully but well in the shower with regular soap. This will sting: take painkillers first.
    Pat dry with paper towels.
Apply lots of antibiotic ointment: keep everything moist and it'll heal with less scarring.
    Repeat daily.

For the first couple days things will probably still be weepy and you'll have to do the short clean in the evening: apply Bactine, pat dry with paper towels, reapply antibiotic.

The pump spray bottles of Bactine are $$$. You can use straight isopropyl if you're cheap, but it's nice to have the Lidocaine because that shit stings like a motherfucker.

I am against the overuse of antibiotics, but big open flesh wounds are a case where you really don't want to fuck around.
