No, but someone will get pissed off.
Your dog just ate an avocado!

SNOWSHOEING ON SKIN TRACKS IS BAD! You should always be skinning, not snowshoeing. This implies that you are a knuckledragger. You're not one of them, are you?
It sort of depends in my experience - if you're somewhere real popular with a popular trail (like Berthoud) and hacking it up to no end, then it pisses off the skinners to no end. If you're only one or two snowshoers out of a larger group of skinners and you're not postholing very badly, then it's barely noticeable If you're breaking trail for the skinners, then it's great!
Going down a skin track (can't imagine why you'd do that ever, even if you're a knuckle dragger) is always BAD.
Edit: I just read what phUnk wrote. Excellent advice. Live it, know it, be it, etc...

Ask yourself, "Am I fucking shit up for other people?"
If no, no problem.
If yes, it's a problem.
Kind of a life thing.
Isn't she tired yet, phUnk? Christ!

I ski and board and want to learn to drop my knee this year![]()
I have a great bc setup for skiing but I haven't pulled the trigger on a split board yet cause I bought some Gotamas instead.
When the bc snow isn't primo I usually take out the board it handles crust and heavy snow better. I have friends that only board and only have snowshoes and I always wonder if we are pissing anyone off when shoeing in the skin track.
So I guess we aren't cause If we ever start to sink alot and post hole we always move off the track.Originally posted by phUnk

"It appears my hypocrisy knows no bounds."
it's not THAT bad. I'm always skinning and I don't really mind snowshoes as long as it's not like 7 or 8 dudes. straight bootpacking though is super shitty.
Yeah, its just about impossible to snowshoe on a trail thats been bootpacked.Originally posted by tywhy

Doing anything in a skin track besides skinning is like pissing in the holy water in the vatican...it is one of the most sacred parts of the backcountry experience...if you see someone doing this, set your beacon to receive...if you're lucky, you can give 2 lectures for the price of one!

I'll whip this dead horse too. The correct answer is "YES, it is bad form." However, if you are supplying the dope it can be acceptable.
You are what you eat.

There's no such thing as bad snow, just shitty skiers.
Convince someone to lay a snowshoe track about 10 feet to the left of the skin track and it will turn into your own stairway to heaven.

you know...I have to say this is a very good policy that can and should be applied often and liberally. Instead of wearing those “WWJD” bracelets you could have one that said "AIFSUFOP?"Originally Posted by phUnk

You don't need freerides when you got freeheels
It is. Postholing is worse.
Just like in golf with sand traps, proper etiquette mandates that you restore the track to its original state if you step in it. Make sure you have a shovel.
Is Dingleberry's avatar some other view on phUnk's? (Not a serious question, just an association made reading that thread.)

ABSOLUTELY. Straight boot packing is worse, but unless the skin track is solid, snowshoes still put holes in it. Not many things piss me off more.

why would you want to increase the number of tracks in the BC? anyone who replies with comments like"knuckledragger" is ignorant. Ive been snowshoeing on skin tracks for years an nobody has ever complained. in fact the guy who "fucked up" yer track will probably be the guy that saves your life!!! mo love mo turns
slowshoes are for JONGS!

You've never been in front of me on the skintrack then. Yes, I am somewhat of an elitist.Originally Posted by finsy

This past weekend, myself and a friend put in a snowshoe track on the Flagstaff ridge. For the most part we were able to stay off the skin track, but a few times we had to join the skin track. I'm truly sorry for this infraction and beg for your forgiveness.
That is true however; due to the difficulty of boot packing a boot pack usually never makes it to the goal/top of the mountain/ridge. So I would prolly boot up till the booter ends then throw my skins or snowshoes on.Originally posted by Lone Star

The only person that has the right to be pissed at someone snowshoeing or boot packing in the skin track is the person that laid the skin track.
