    Skiing to music

I was going through an old box last night and found some old cassette tapes I had made for skiing back when I used my old Sony Sports yellow Walkman.

I popped in the tapes; it was so cool how instant memories of turns I was making listening to that exact song popped up. I couldn't believe how I could remember the exact area and run I was hitting to a certain song.

I still have a tape player in my car, so I've been rockin my old ski tapes the last few days driving around town.

Ahh, the memories of my old K2 Extremes and TNC's (god, I loved those skis...), the blue pants, the old Nordica Grand Prix's, the Marker bindings...

Maybe I'll get out the 'ol yellow walkman again this season... I wish I still had the TNC's. They turned into a chair.

Oh, and since I was in the mood last night, I watched Continuum too. Todd Jones rockin' the DH boards, Sick Rick with his Life Link shovel handle sticking a foot above his head, Kreitler killin' it on..... K2 TNC's........

i'd like to ski to music but i'd be afraid that i'd not see some guy traversing a slope while i proceed to t-bone him. that is in the resort of course. i wouldn't want to end up like that kid in colorado taking his last run and ending up in jail. in the bc i need all the senses i can get. hearing everything you can is important.

I prefer au natural skiing, music is a distraction & detracts from the beauty that ensconces you during the zen of the moment. The rhythm I want to rock to is my breathing , pulse,& the sound of my skis cutting an arc.The is nothing better than listening to the sublime ,shimmering sizzle of fresh snow under your skis.Besides I have music running through my brain all the time,I actually like taking a break from it.

I have a good friend that always skis with music. He is a great guy,but it's irritating when you're trying to stick together in a dangerous, situation,& he can't hear you.Once we were touring past the boundary out Honeycomb Canyon with some friends. Were skiing a sweet ,steep pitch & were supposed to cut back into the area after 30 turns or so.My friend couldn't here us yelling at him to stop,& skied down past the exit point.Besides feeling foolish by association, I had to make the unpleasant decision to follow him, because in the words of Maverick," You never leave your wing-man." We lost the rest of the group for more than half the day & missed out on a good part of our guided tour.

I usually listen to music when it is more crowded at the slopes to help drone out the gapers complaints about the snow not being smooth enough or hill being too steep. I do however keep the volume low enough that I could still hear someone screaming down the hill toward me.

On uncrowded days I prefer the wind and sound of the skis on the snow to music. Much more calming.
