-NSR- Home provider Internet help needed. Tech talk JONG, thanks
SO i finally got a new hme PC.
I of course need the web at home.
2 problems.
1) i hate comcast. I have gotten basic cable for 4 years in my condo. the president of my homeowners assoc. told me it was part of the dues, I think he is prolly full of shit & its pirated. dont wanna lose this plus dealing with comcast is like trying to fuck a hot girl in a ski town with no money & less game.
2) I hate quest more than comcast. dealt with their phone monopoly by dropping off the land line all together.
now in SLC these are your 2 choices.
I had a friend & then later a computer tech suggest a wireless G card & picking up any wireless access around me as I live in a densely populated area.
I imagine there are some hot spots around me & I KNOW the coffee shop down stairs has one.
so is this a good option yes or no?
as far as my morals go, I hate screwing people & have no problem taking advantage of corporations so couch response as such please.
Woodsy- Having spent a fair amount of time in the building attached next door to yours, (Artspace) I can tell you for sure there are some wifi signals floating around there that are unsecured. Someone with a cable modem is pumping out a big signal so all the starving artists can get online...
I'm not sure if it'll break through to your building, but it's worth a shot. Whatever you do, don't go with bluezone, many people are having trouble with it.
FWIW, I sacked up and got a cable modem for the new casa.
And I hate comcast too, but slightly less than I hate Qwest.
on the pointy end, calling the line, swearing my fucking ass off

I'd take a whack at catching a wireless signal but FIRST find out the return policy at your local parts craphole.
As far as comcast... *shrug* How saturated is the network? If you get comcast cable, you will have a cable modem so the retard who runs the place can't share the connection on you. If you don't get a modem and he wants to pull cable through windows, call Comcast and nail him into oblivion in like 3mo's (So he dosen't suspect you).
the DSL and Cable providers are just starting to get their crap straight these days because they're now realizing just how fast people are willing to jump ship so you can end up talking them down in price. (I've been getting discounted cable modem service for 2 years now just from weaseling the phone people with "well... i think im gonna switch to DSL if you're gonna have to raise the cost")
