Bush Win Draws Less Than Rave Reviews From Overseas Papers
POSTED: 12:33 pm EST November 4, 2004
"Doh! Four more years of Dubya."
That was one headline on London's liberal Daily Mirror tabloid Thursday. The front page carries a photo of President George W. Bush waving. Under the photo, the paper asks in bold print, "How can 59,054,087 people be so DUMB?"
The Daily Mail had a photo of Bush and his family with the headline "March of the Moral Majority."
In Spain, the conservative paper El Mundo ran a cartoon showing Osama bin Laden holding up Bush's arm in triumph. An editorial in the paper said Bush rode voters' fear of terrorism and desire for strong leadership to a win. It said, "Most Americans want simple answers to complex problems."
The Swiss newsweekly Facts calls Bush's win "Europe's Nightmare."
“Within this furnace of fear, my passion for life burns fiercely. I have consumed all evil. I have overcome my doubt. I am the fire.”
It's pretty academic really. Mirror readers can't count higher than 11.
nope, you've got your events confused. The 'wag the dog' stuff was Operation Desert Fox, a punitive bombing campaign against Iraq, ostensibly because they weren't submitting to int'l WMD inspections.Originally Posted by Grange
yes he did send cruise missiles after Osama, but that was a different event - retaliation for the bombings of the embassies in Africa. Cruise missiles were fired into Sudan and Afghanistan, and yes there was republican outcry because of how weak and ineffective the strikes were, not to mention that they may have hit the wrong target in Sudan.
JBTs?
Start passing out the guns.

Bump for the irony of bumping an Iraq thread titled "we are the bastards the rest of the world thinks we are" in an attempt to address the percieved failure by Bush to rapidly solve the crisis in NewOrleans.
Did you hear what the Tsunami people said about our insane lawlessness in this time of crisis??? They cannot believe the shit that is going down. Neither can I. I am sure most of the world has just had their worst fears of american lawlessness and immorality confirmed.
We are animals.
We are ruthless.
We are self-serving evil fucks.
The lawlessness of a modern american city makes me want to move to the north woods and become a survivalist. As someone that doesn't own a gun, I'm am definitely going to buy one for personal defense because when the shit hits the fan hard enough, the cops canot protect me from the mob.
no, you are not and you know that (I at least do). you (and I mean everyone for himself) should simply think about what sense it makes to put firearms in everyones hands and if the quick draw is always the best option.Originally Posted by Core Shot

are we really that surprised there have been isolated incidents of looting going on in New Orleans? A city that has 10 times the violent crime of an average city in the US. Christ, half the time a pro sports team wins a championship there are riots and looting.

And I'm sure some people stole some television sets without using guns as well. I'm saying that maybe America will wake up to the fact that the general public having access to the same firepower as the law enforcement services and the army is maybe not so smart.Originally Posted by Core Shot
I just don't buy that we are any more ruthless or lawless or less moral than any other society. When people get desperate, they do desperate things and become animals. Thats a fact. Its no different than whats going on in Darfur, than men raping babies in South Africa to "cure" their AIDS, than what the Japanese troops did in Nanking, than what happened in Kosovo, etc, etc. When a certain level of desperation and stress is reached, violence, rape, and murder sadly become some peoples answer. As much as we try to deny it, we are animals, and we are subject to the same modes of behaivour that other animals exhibit when desperation is reached.Originally Posted by Core Shot

and I am adding that violence sometimes creates violence. if you experience that violence is the appropiate and a very succesful means to achieve your goals, it might become a habit. (no matter if you're goals are legal or not and no matter if a gun is in reach)Originally Posted by Core Shot

Okay, the stat is wrong by a factor of 6 and as far as I can recall there has never been a champion pro sports team in New Orleans, but I hear you.Originally Posted by mr_gyptian

is that clear enough?
