as a staunch opponent of GW and his administration on almost every front/issue (the enviornment, the erosion of our civil liberties, the right-wing pandering, the bogus war in irag, the dumbing down of america, the overly-religous tones, etc etc etc), i think we need to keep this in perspective.

democracy is a good thing, america is a great country, and its ok to agree to disagree. the nation is divided, but the majority voted for GW and the rest of us have to learn to accept/live with the result. unlike last time (when GW did steal FLA and didn't recieve a majority of the popular vote), he did recieve almost 3 mil more votes than JK. democracy has spoken.

for those that opposed GW (like me), its time to excercise your rights as a citizen (while we still can ) to disagree with those in power. now more than ever. join the sierra club TODAY. join the ACLU. stay on top of the issues that are important to you, and act locally where you can.

but above all else, i really hope that we can all learn to have a civil discourse. to agree to disagree in a civil fashion. that is what i will try to do while still acting locally to the best of my ability. hopefully, GW (unlike last time) will reach out across the isle and try and unite us. that is my hope.

if, however, this administration tilts even further to the right, and becomes even more belicose to those that disagree with them...well, then, fack my toughts above about trying to reach out, etc......

It's okay to whine now and then, you gotta let your emotions flow, but it doesn't get you anywhere. Everyone complains about how FAHCKING STUPID most Americans are, but I see a LOT more people complaining than taking action. Get out, talk to dumb America, educate, listen, enlighten. It's like my roommate, who's 5 months out of a relationship and still depressed because surprise, surprise, all he does is talk about how shitty his situation is.

I have a friend, who I thought was a "holier than thou" liberal. Turns out she made me look stupid. She works for a civil activism group and TALKS and LISTENS to people. She doesn't simply spew liberal fire... and she actually is turned off by the "holier than thou" liberals and gets a lot more out of talking with those that might not completely agree with her.

The anti-gay amendments depress me too. Why, in the land of "religious freedom" do we need to enforce religious beliefs on people?

an abhorrence or dislike of homosexuality is not necessarily a religious issue. Some people, actually a lot of people, like myself think marriage is something to be defined as a one man, one woman issue.

However, I feel that the ban on same-sex civil unions in certain states is FUCKED. I personally support that benefit as it gives same-sex couples the same rights as marriage, basically it's marriage in all but name...giving them rights while preserving the order of things in the past.

Unless monogamy and heterosexuality have gone the way of divine right, I don't think that's so evil so as to give them the same rights, just in a name that preserves the natural order of things.

I'm not bigoted, just opinionated...boom.

What scares me the most about this election (and so much scares me about Bush) is that in the next 4 years a few Supreme Court Judges will retire and Bush will nominate his "moral agenda - higher calling" judges which are life long appointments. Not to mention they will have an easier timing passing now due to the republicans controlling both houses.

Bush has made it very clear regarding his "moral" views and he seems to forget or doesn't care about that famous ruling our founding fathers created called seperation of church and state.

What I'm amazed by is that Kerry's home state's Supreme Court brought this issue to the forefront and made it into a wedge issue. Marriage is a legal agreement, pure and simple. try getting spousal benefits with out a state marriage license. it's impossible.

Though you probably should have started this revolution before the election. You guys keep saying that "its time to do something" and "its time to take a stand" yet very few of you actually do. There are people like Plake and Dex and Tip that protested during the RNC, and people like Schuss that tried to get people to vote for Kerry. I give 'em a lot of credit, that kind of stuff takes balls, but they are the minority. Everyone else would rather sit back and complain that things aren't going their way. That's easy. Kerry could have won if more people really gave a crap. If you really cared, you would have done something. Right now, as far as I'm concerned, you're just pretending to care.
