Honeycomb swallowtail - problems bending since the honeycomb was aluminum (I think).

Best skied with Hansons and 390RDs
I was thinking those were the skis we were talking about.Originally Posted by BlurredElevens

I had some Hansons. The rubber liner was great for wicking sweat right back at your feet.Originally Posted by Foggy_Goggles

I've got an old pair that were my Dads in the attic............he didn't delam this pair.
Some bending, don't remember delams.
The binding mounts required rubber washers.
Almost as obscure as Graves.

My parents skied on Hexcels with Spademan bindings when I was a kid. Can't report on the performance, but for some reason I remember them fondly; maybe because they were the first skis to ever live at our house.
They used these gems, too:

Still got two pairs of Hexcels in the garage. Real lawn darts from the early days. No real problems with them, at long as you mounted the bindings correctly. One of the few types of skis that me and my brother were not able to break during the 70s and 80s. Also wicked ugly color schemes, although that was par for the course in those days. I think I skied my hexies with Burt bindings and Head Air boots. My bro used probably some sort of plate binding and Hansons.
BTW, Hansons had neoprene liners, which you had to spray with silicone in order to slide your feet into them.
(So many years, so much equipment!)
heh, not quite as obscure and not quite as badass either.Originally Posted by Buster Highmen

No reason really. I'm going for another cocktail. Politics are depressing. No hockey isn't helping, powder skiing is.Originally Posted by iceman

made in the U S and A until '96, I'll call. anyone? still remember the last ad i saw for em in Powder. guy sitting up on bed wall of truck, looking off stoicallly to the el cheezo future, sitting on the back of red old school 60's(?), or early 70's pickup with wheel wells. he was looking to veiwers right, with of course the obligatory mtn in background. think there was a chick down below him somewhere, off the right. weren't they made in montana or something?

Hell yeah! I used to have a pair of 205 cm green and black Hexcel skis that must have been at least a half an inch thick underfoot. To boot (heh) they were strapped with a pair of Burt II bindingws, that had if I remember correctly, some weird sort of black plastic toe loop thing in the front and nothing more.
I skied them in my backyard, and then promptly bought a pair of Rossignol 5SMs and made the Hexcels into a chair. Weighing only 115 lbs at the time, nothing I could do short of tandem skiing with a very large person would flex them.
Hexels are really before my shop rat time, but when I first started we'd get a few pair a year that some dude wanted to put 977 Equipes on. Not only were you supposed to use those rubber washers when you mounted them, but they came with this epoxy that you had to dump into the mounting holes before you set the screws in. The reason? Because of the honeycomb, the screws went through the binding plate into basically dead air. I recall more than a couple pair coming in because the bindings eventually pulled loose. The one thing I remember about the skis themselves is that they're light - real light.
Still a pair of my brothers Hexel Sundance(?) or Firelite's(?) in the 'rents attic.

Ha! Molnar Softs (pea-soup green), Hanson boots, complete with the silcone spray lube. Almost as bad as the old Dolomite "Secret Weapon" knee highs.
Not soliciting business through casual internet associations
Super Comp's were pretty hot in 1976. Yes, they did delam and had problems with the bindings pulling out. Firelites and Sundances were pretty much junk.
