Vibes to you Rev. You've lost a good friend. Hope this story helps:

Three dogs were having a chat. The mastiff said "So what do you suppose it is that makes us truly dog? The spaniel said "It's our faithfulness, loyalty and devotion." The pit bull said "No, it's our killer instinct to fight to the death." "It's the combination," pontificated the mastiff; "Without it, we would be no better than humans."

truey a heart breaking story. I am very sorry for your loss. I am not sure which is a lesser evil, knowing that you dog is going to pass or having him pass suddenly. Putting dogs down, to this day is the hardest thing I have ever had to do for me emotionally.

    RIP Paco

Oh man- it gets better- slowly. Puppies seem to help, but if you are like me, that wasn't an option.

I lost my boy 4th of July weekend. It was my choice. He had throat cancer- diagnosed 2 weeks earlier. Be thankful it happened quickly. Watching them suffer, while we selfishly try to hold on is much much worse. Be thankful for that one small thing- you didn't have to make that decision. I know what you mean about their skin being softer than it ever was. I thought the same thing the last time I saw my Monte. Hang in there. Post pics when you are ready- that helped me.

    Doesn't seem fair...

It will suck but it will pass. You'll miss him but remember him and all the cool stuff he got to do because he was your friend.

Give me a shout if I can help in anyway.

So sorry for your loss, Rev. RIP Paco.

I miss every dog I've ever had. You'll never forget Paco, and you won't replace him, but IMHO get another dog as soon as you're able. The old girl will pass before you're ready and you sound like the kind of guy who would not do well without a canine companion in his life.

My condolences Reverend. It is the price we pay for playing together. And worth it.

FKNA, that's shitty. I understand the needs of ranchers to protect their flocks from coyotes and the like... But I swear, there are too many fuckers in this world who'll shoot something just for the sake of shooting something.

Vibes+++ Floater. I know it's small consolation, but just remember: Paco was the luckiest dog in the world because he got to share his life with you.

Rev, I don't know you and have never met you or your dog. However, I have always kept an eye out for threads mentioning Paco. I have always thought that he looks like and lived the life of a good dog. Paco was a good dog in the truest sense of the word. I am saddened by his passing.

You will miss him and never forget him but always remember that you were both so lucky to have shared your lives together. Vibes to you.

Sad news. I'll be thinking about you, Rev when I'm home and my fuzz-butt is all over me to take him to the park or something. No matter how tired I'll be, it won't seem like a burden or an obligation tonight.

We had a great time at the Dog Beach in Del Mar yesterday.

Losing a member of the family is never easy, hang in there and take solace in the fact that Paco had a great life and did not suffer.

    RIP Paco

It's so damn hard. My advice is to give yourself some room to grieve - take some time off, make sure people who have expectations of you know that you are not going to be available for a while. It gets easier but its never easy. I feel for your GF, it must have torn her heart out to have to live through that scene with you.

    Rest in peace, Paco.

I'm so sorry. Remember that YOU gave him a really good life--some dogs will never be as lucky as yours are.
Every time i lose one of my babies, I go to the animal shelter and get the ugliest, grodiest, oldest, most disabled dog or cat they have. Those babies will never find a home... And these pets are the most wonderful animals on earth.
So you have room for another to enjoy your love and your warmth.

A rattle snake took our pet two years ago. Very painfull to see here die and not be able to do anything.

++vibes at least your dog died outside hiking.

Our pet died laying on a stanless steel tray pumped with IV's.

Dog lovin vibes from our fam to yours brother. Hiking up Kessler Pk. a few weeks ago I was hurting and feeling bad for some reason even though it's my happy place in the wasatch. Damn near burst into tears realizing even though the furkids only 4 there will come a time when I'll carry his ashes up and scatter them into the wind off the peak he's named after. i'm sap when it comes to shit like that. Cherish the memories of good times no new dog ever replaces the hole in your heart the last one leaving created, but it's an oppurtunity to build a new set of memories.
Hang tough and know the thoughts of dog lovin mags are w/ you. And from what i hear the other side of the rainbow bridge is a cool place.
