    I'm going to El Salvador

    June 5-13. Staying near Sunzal.

Stoked and nervous (in a good way).

So...how safe is it down there these days?

Buddy went last year and they stayed in a hotel in Sunzal, got a guide the first day then took buses everywhere after that. They didn't get rolled for their shorts or anything.

    We're staying here:

    Sweet, an El Salvador Summit.

I live just down the beach in El Tunco. My son goes to the public school in Sunzal.

I'm confused, one spot on the webpage says 3k from Sunzal and another says 3k from Mizata.

I've haven't been hassled in my 7 months down here. My wife was pickpocket-ed on a crowded bus in San Salvador. But she was held up at gunpoint in Denver, so stay out of Denver. You can walk around at night in El Tunco.

If you want a guide, I know a guy. If you need anything, let me know.

Thanks, Tief. How's your surfing coming along? You throwing buckets yet?

Yeah, that's weird about saying it's 3km from Sunzal. I'm pretty sure the house is west of Mizata. So it's like an hour from Sunzal. Meh, whatever.

I've learned a bunch in the past week and am pretty amped. Our goal is to get into some decent, uncrowded waves. I don't need super juice as I'm from Florida and am old. Given what I've read it sounds like the farther west you get from Punta Roca the less crowded it is. True?

How's the water quality in the ocean there? That's one concern of mine. I've had a bunch of eye surgeries and my eye is more suseptable to infection than regular folk. I've heard about turds in the lineup but I think those stories are closer to Punta Roca.

Would be stoked if you sent me your guide's info. Not sure what we're going to do on that front. We'll probably get one the first day at least, and maybe if we go east.

We should try and hook up.

Surfing is coming along, when I'm not injured. I took a month off because I f-ed up my ribs and 2 weeks off because of an ear infection. Its not quite like starting over each time I get back on it, but its a bit frustrating to have to get knocked down a couple of rungs.

After looking at the website a bit more you are going to be out by Mizata if the are talking about Sonsonate for shopping and an ATM.

Water quality should be fine away from Punta/La Lebertad. There is a sewage treatment plant there that dumps raw sewage when its capacity is exceeded. I went looking for a lesson once from Hospital de Tablas de Surf and the owner sent me to El Tunco because it had rained a shit load, literally, and didn't want me or his instructors getting sick. Thats how I ended up moving to El Tunco. He is also a seems like straight shooter, so if you need anything gear or repair wise while you are down here, I would recommend them.

I'll pass along his info when I here back from him.

That drug dealer house on the point is pretty pimp.

I don't know if I'm rad enough for the wild East. Las Flores maybe, and Mango looks super fun but I'll get drilled there.

I've heard Las Flores and Punta Mango are more crowded than some of the western spots now with the resorts and half dozen pangas out there.

Fuck I can't wait. I need to find some water wings.
