I hiked Sterling Peak at Smuggs yesterday with the dogs. They have begun to make snow and have about 1/2 of their normal first day opener trail covered. AND it is puking snow as I type this both up high and in the valleys. Here it comes!!!!

Was out at Gore this morning. Skiied from 8-11AM, after that conditions started going downhill fast. Topridge was open, as was Foxlair and WildAir. Coverage was better than expected and the snow was fairly soft. The mountain's race team was out in force after about 10, which made for unsafe conditions. Racers going 50 through thin cover an iffy snow conditions mixed with good skiers who realize that today is not the day to ski fast mixed with gapers made for some dangerous runs.

They didn't have many guns blowing, prolly because it's going to be warm and rainy for the next few days. It's a shame it's gonna get warm, in terms of conditions this was the best first day I've ever had, but it'll all go to hell tomorrow.

I hiked up Wildcat Thanksgiving morning (after almost two inches of rain had fallen the night before.) It was of course wet granular, but ungroomed and in some interesting spine and hip type shapes. It was fun for a bit and felt great to get the skis back on. I'm not surprised they delayed their opening a week; the upper lift hill was brown and it was 55 and everything was melting fast.
