Do I get this checked out?

My left shoulder's been achy off and on for the past couple days. I have a little bit of chest pain. Feel fine otherwise.

I'm 29, fit, in good health (as far as I know), 5'9" and 150lbs. No family history of any heart conditions. I HAVE been under a fair amount of stress lately.

I've been writing it off as gas, combined with sleeping on my left side recently; but I'd hate to, like, die or something.

    Thoughts?
    focus.

Stress can and will do crazy things to your body. That said, if the symptoms persist, I would get it checked out if nothing but for peace of mind.

I injured my shoulder last year and have many of the same symptoms. Feels like a heart attack.

Think back weeks or months whether you had some kind of injury, trauma, or strain to that shoulder. There is usually a cause and affect.

I took a pretty good beater a month or so back in some refrozen crud, had my shoulders all wonked out for a week or so; coulda been that.

I haven't skied in over a week either, ergo stress.

I'm guessing the gimp forum is patrolled by medical professionals - if that's what I wanted I'd ask a doctor (which I'll probably end up doing). I'm looking for unqualified, joe the plumber type feedback here.

    Depends on your insurance really.
If you do go in to the ER, make sure you say "chest pain" very clearly. If you say "shoulder pain" you might as well bring a picnic and a good book.

Having chronic shoulder pain in both of mine, I can feel for you, it isn't fun. As 4matic stated, think back to when/how you might have injured your shoulder and what type of motion may have done it. There may be a related causal effect between your shoulder being injured and your rib cage taking some damage. Rib muscles when they get bruised can feel quite painful and often the sharp pain can feel like a mild heart attack. I also get pain that sounds similar to your from time to time, usually from injury/stretching my rib cage.

All that being said. ++++vibes and heal up. Pain is never any fun.

in my experiance from WW paddling if you actualy Kack a shoulder it can take a very long time to fix itself if the shoulder does fix itself at all without surgery cuz the shoulder has a very high range of motion and to do so makes it a delicate joint really

I have done both shoulders and even without surgery it was somewheres <2years to get back to normal ,done a lot of elbows too ... but thats another thread eh

After a check from the local physio guy who's philosophy is "do this and come back if it doesnt work" as opposed to "see me for the next 6 months" I did a bunch of low weight/high rep shoulder exercises in all directions on one of them pulley machines at the gym AND ...its all good now

but of course doctors & at least for me physio is all free (ya I know I still pay for it ) so the emerg route might be a good way to at least get yer ticker checked if you can do that kind of thing gratus down there

maybe after that see a physio and as OL sez one hitter OR my personel fav ... follow the path of the brownie

My stress seems to migrate to different areas of my body. I recently had some persistant "discomfort" on the left side of my chest above the heart area. My Dad died of a heart attack, so I ened up going and getting a stress test. At 44, I thought it would at least provide a base line for the future. All checked out excellent and defintely gave me some peace of mind. Now all I have to do is eliminate all stress from my life!

I had a similar [ame=http://www.tetongravity.com/FORUMS/showthread.php?t=57627]experience[/ame] a few years ago. Turned out it was a combination of stress/ slight acid reflux from too much coffee. I also had to stop sleeping on my left side and ended up in PT several months later from some impingement in the shoulder. In the end it was good to know the heart was in really good shape.

I have/had a dull, yet oppressive pain in my lungs every time I would breathe. Felt like someone was jamming a finger into my lungs. Got kinda concerned when it started to interfere with riding bikes; I mentioned it to the dr and an xray was ordered up. Turns out my 7th rib broke in a few places and healed deformed. Likely it was caused by a crash about five years ago (wet root>front wheel wash out>ribs+stump).

Funny thing is, it comes and goes. I think it rotates around, at times it's very noticeable and others I can feel it sorta clunk back into place then everything is fine. Yoga is typically a good fix.

I guess my point is, I had no idea that I had an effed up rib and you don't really know what's causing your chest pain. It might be your body compensating for your shoulder injury or you could have heart worm.

Yeah, I always look for advice from a plumber on the internet when I think I'm having a heart attack.

You think it could been that? Ya beater you.
Of course it is. Or you are having a heart attack. Don't ask a dr just rest it up. Better off going to a P/T and getting some help. A dr will just say you fucked up your shoulder $140 please.

Do you really think that medical professionals would troll TGR? Dentists maybe, but I don't think there are any drs on here.

My point was that I was starting a casual conversation about my random chest pains - It's the padded room and this shit was topical for me.

I wasn't really looking for medical advice. C'mon, it's TGR. Quit being a douchebag (oh wait, it's TGR). I did end up asking a Dr (I'm the disappointing underachiever in a family of MDs) - he said to relax.

You'll all be relieved to know, by the way, that my pains went away. I feel GREAT these days.
